Default What geographic areas of Pittsburgh would be good to live in?

May be moving to Pittsburgh from Cleveland (Grew up in Sharon PA area so just north of Pittsburgh). What areas are the better areas to look at suburb wise? I would be working on 4th Ave in downtown and would be ok with around 30-40 min commute. At first glance I was looking out of the main city area, but not sure which areas I should look at (crime, travel concerns)

Don't have a family yet, so would probably be looking at a house again in the future, but right now a reasonable area to live would be acceptable

Where should I be looking?

Thanks

How are things at the Buhl Club?

If working 9-5 downtown, I would suggest finding a place along the T. If you have to drive in and out of town during the day, I would stay East or North.

Points north are the easiest commute. Bellevue, Ben Avon, Emsworth are a straight shot right down Ohio River Blvd or 279 to town.

Lots of apartments in those areas and no tunnels between there and Pittsburgh.

The near Northshore Ohio Valley suburbs (Bellevue, Ben Avon, Emsworth), as someone already mentioned, are a decent bet if you will be driving to work every day, but I would also recommend taking a look at Dormont - it's right on the South Hills T line, and it's also got a great, walkable Main St. area for shopping and dining, etc.

Buhl Club is still around, I haven't had a membership there in a long time, but it's still running.

The North side is interesting to me because it is closer to my home town area, but I wonder what's the travel timeline to the South side coming from the North? My view of Pittsburgh is more confusing than most cities because of the rivers mostly. Is that just a view from someone who isn't in the area often? Where I work now, Columbus the one river we have can cause some travel issues, but for the most part our 270 beltway that circles the city and the nearby towns makes travel fairly straightforward and quick.
