Default Nice places to vacation w/in 2 hours of Pgh?

We're coming up for a visit in May, and my DH and I are gonna ditch the little one with Grandma and go away for a few days. I'm pregnant, so wild partying and drinking is out.

DH likes to golf, I wouldn't say no to spa treatments. We were looking at Nemacolin last night, but couldn't really swallow the $400/night price tag to stay there. We don't really care if the location is in a 'burb, either, so long as there is entertainment and food nearby. Maybe something in the South Hills or out by Ligonier or Seven Springs? We just want to relax and sleep in!

Anyone have ideas?

Thanks!

I am not sure if it is within 2 hours but Chautauqua is a very nice place. The Institute isn't in season but it is very neat to walk around anyway.

Chautauqua is a nice place but about 2 1/2 hours. We enjoy walking around there. Check out the schedule for the place if you want to see some top shows.

Nemacolin isn't $400 a night that I know of. You don't have to stay at Falling Rock, you can stay at the Chateau or the Lodge, but it isn't a cheap place. Keep in mind, you can enjoy the pool at Falling Rock and stay at the Lodge. Shuttles are always running. Deep Creek is another place.

Oglebay should be a little more reasonable than Nemacolin.

Spring & Golf Packages | Oglebay Resort & Conference Center

Seven Springs or Hidden Valley will have all the items you are looking for as well.

For a quiet weekend away, the wife and I always went here:
Foggy Mountain Lodge, Restaurant, Wedding and Banquet Facility, Stahlstown, PA - Wedding Receptions, Lodging, Restaurant, Banquets, Ligonier, PA

We'd tool around in Ligonier, Laughlintown (mmm, mmm, great sticky buns) and Seven Springs during the day and chill out at the lodge in the evenings (winter time).

Golf is a short trip away and I am sure there are some spas close by for you to enjoy.

Cant believe no one has said Deep Creek Lake in maryland. We go there at least once a year with a large group of friends for a weeekend and this year we are also going for a week long stay. It's a great little spot.

Consider Bedford Springs Resort. Golf course, hiking trails, stunning indoor and outdoor pools, and beautiful restoration. I went while pregnant and they were very accomodating during the spa treatments.

I just received my travel guide in the mail from there. I'm an avid kayaker, hiker, and bird-watcher who also wants to dabble in some fishing, so I figured that would be the perfect spot!

Rent a cabin near Linn Run State Park. Ligonier would be an easy stop on the way.

I'm also fond of the Laurel Highlands, particularly the Confluence/Ohiopyle area. No cell phone service out there! Visiting the area is like going back 10 years in time. It's great.

There are also many great places to visit in Allegheny National Forest. Beartown Rocks is an awesome place that provides access to almost total wilderness, and perhaps the opportunity to stand where nobody has stood before. Ridgway and Brookville are cool little towns along the way.
