Actually its not. It is well to do former Hill residents(Black, Very Black) investing ivesting in their community. There is alot of market rate housing(120-$300,000.00) going on in the Hill District.

Very good point. A friend of mine bought a house over there a year or two ago for $175. Great location. Will be even better after the Civic Arena site sees some redevelopment.

The Hill may be the most misunderstood part of Pittsburgh. I suspect that is in part because a lot of people never have occasion to go there, and of course the general Pittsburgh thing of old impressions dying hard.

That is all but guaranteed at this point, since it would take a supramajority in Council to stop it.

Upper Hill and former Hill District residents contribute to alot of the new positives in the Hill... If the City continues urban developmen and construction of townhouses/duplexes it will attract hipsters... Which will hopefully adding housing stock and more Incrase Da Peace areas, and founds to the area... Although Crawford Roberts Hill and Middle Hill are slowly getting gentrified, Terrace Village and Bedford Dwellings are still HIGHLY dangerous, and are barely in better shape than in the '90's!!!

PS~ They should keep the Mellon Arena, then turn the area into a shopping center!

Any time you hear from the big power people that the building is falling apart, the building will be torn down. It is a really interesting building, but it is already gone. Some are happy about it, some are not. It doesn't matter. As soon as you hear, "the building is in great need of repair", or "it is cost prohibited to repair", the game is over. The money people have all the control and you might as well start realizing there is no hope to make the arena anything. The delays are all about show. It is just to make people think they are considering it for something, but it is just a show. It could have been a global show stopper, which is something the consol (one of the biggest polluters in our region and I hate that name) center will never be. It was no doubt possible to have outdoor hockey weather permitting games. That would be something no one in the world that I know of would have had. The media attention for such a thing would have been huge, but the money people wanted better luxury boxes. They just couldn't deal with such a poor boxes in the CIVIC arena. Not nearly enough luxury for the money folk. That is who runs everything and it is best to just except it and move on. Life is too short to fight the $$ folk. You will lose no matter what you may think. Not need to discuss it. The wrecking ball (pun) is already starting to swing. Although, I am not sure how they will take it down. It is no doubt built very well.
