I remember that as well, they should bring it back and play it at 2AM every night.

ANyone remember channel 53 when it was an independent? they had awesome kids' shows in the afternoon: "Speed Racer", "Ultraman", and others. "Ultraman" was just awesomeness to the third degree.

Yep 53 had the best cartoons. I could pull it in pretty clearly on my 12" black and white set using just the round UHF antenna all the way from Youngstown. I also remember watching pre-Mario Pens games on 53 and Pirates games on channel 2.

Ultraman, what a show. Lousy effects, lousy dubbing, lousy plots, I loved it!

Yeah, the Science Patrol seemed utterly useless. They only managed to make the monster angrier!

LOL! My soon to be 50 year old brother used to run around with a spoon, holding it in the air, and yelling "Hiyata becomes ULTRAMAN", after which he would jump off of a table, chair, or whatever high place was handy.

I pretty much remember everything listed. I was on Jr. High Quiz back in march of 1972, as a 13 year old 8th grader, and remembered Wertz from a decade earlier. Miss Janie was the host of Romper Room. Clark Race's dance show was in the early 60's. Kids used to laugh at you if you were caught wearing a "Paul Shannon sweater". "Down comes the magic curtain" after which we would be treated to a cartoon, frequently Kimba, The White Lion". If you are a second half baby boomer (or as some prefer, a member of Generation Jones), you should remember most of this.

Bob Kudzma was a young guy when he first came to KDKA, and they used to call him the Sunshine Kid. He was in this hilarious commercial, where a mobster's daughter was getting married, and they visited Kudzma, and told him to "fix the weather good". They then flashed ahead to show a crying bride in a downpour saying "make him fix it daddy". Kudzma then gets a nighttime visit from the mobster, who tells him, "Kudzma, you been a bad boy". This was in the very early 70's.

I loved Don Riggs as Bwana Don every Saturday Morning showing Tarzan movies. Didn't realize he passed away back in 2009. Bwana Don / Don Riggs / Pittsburg Local Kid Shows

Those local shows were pretty funny.

Anyone remember Captain Jim?

Captain Jim had two runs on local tv. I believe he was on Channel 11 in the early 60's. He then came back on Channel 53 in the early 70's.

Kimba the White Lion.

A meat eater that was teaching all the animals to eat grass, what a concept.
