Munhall is another good choice. I thoght it would be pricer than it is. I would try and find a place around Main Street. I think this is called Munhall Park or something like that and not towards Homestead.

I think everyone is giving you good advice so far. I rented an apartment in Crafton for a number of years and really liked the area. It is a very convenient location for getting around -- it's pretty centrally located. Very underrated IMO. Just be aware there is Crafton Borough which is its own municipality and Crafton Heights which is part of the city. The Heights area is fine -- not a bad neighborhood, just not quite as nice as Crafton Borough. Just something to be aware of as you're looking.

Crime wise all of the greatly suggested areas are safe... As siad before PART of Penn Hills is un-safe and the gang related homicides and crime mainy happens there... Crafton Heights's Greenway Projects is were most of the crime happens. The crime/riff-raff from Greenway really doesn't pertian to the rest of Crafton Heights or Crafton so you dont have to worry. Like other people siad Munhall and Perry North border rough neighborhoods [if you were to look in them].

With a 70k budget you will need to make some compromises, hopefully that goes without saying. All of these neighborhoods are okay for the most part but make sure to do your due diligence on the specific part you are looking at once you find a place you think you like.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the tips and advice. Yes, I do realize with a $70,000 budget that we will have to make some compromises.

Thanks again.

Check out Millvale or Etna. They are in the Shaler School District which is pretty decent. Both neighborhoods are safe while not aesthetically pleasing. A 3br brick house behind me sold for about 80k in Millvale but that is high for the area. There is a 3br on my street listed in the 60s right now. I will be listing my house @ 49k in a few weeks but it is only 2br and very small. There are stores to walk to and sidewalks!
