Default pollution in avalon and bellevue

How bad is pollution in Avalon and Bellevue now? Could you smell it in the air? Where does the pollution from? I didn't find a coal plan around there? I read several thread about it years ago.

Does Aspinwall have pollution too?

Thanks, AI

I don't live there, but never noticed a problem visiting friends in Avalon.

Neville Chemical has a major plant on Neville Island right across from Bellevue. The burn off at the plant results in a nearly non stop flame visible from route 65. At times a distinct odor can be smelled all through that area. And at times into Pittsburgh's north side.

Used to live in Emsworth (just a bit more down river), been several years but I seem to recall a few times when it might have had an off odor outside. Never anything I found truly bad but I could smell something. I never smelled it inside my apartment, and I lived right up at the edge of the river. And it wasn't a particularly new or well-sealed building.

I thought the flame was the coke plant? Dunno, there is that and the chemical plant at least.

Mostly the worry would be what else is it doing without smelling or noticing anything. I have mild asthma and lived there 5 years. I can't say it made anything significantly worse for me. It's otherwise a decent place to live. There is certainly not a noticeable (that I saw) particulate fallout or anything.

I live in the northern section of Brighton heights and sometimes I smell that funky odor too... Some days are worse than others. It smells like the jersey turnpike around exit 13 and 14 lol
