T.G.I. Friday's expands to Consol Energy Center

So as many Pittsburgh Folk know Fridays is coming to the Downtown PGH, so honestly how do you folk think the restaurant will perform through this opening summer like when there aren’t any hockey or events going on in the arena.

Will the restaurant even be open on sat & Sundays unlike the world famous Damon’s in the U.S Steel Building (smh)

I hope it will perform well! I’m just a little worried.

what do you guys think

Hard to say. The main hurdle for it is that its a bit out of the way to attract the lunch crowd of downtown workers, nor can I see many people driving into town and paying for parking to eat at a Fridays at other times. Business better be very brisk during arena events. Seems very strange that they wont have the place opened up in time to catch some hockey games.

I bet it'll do well with Duquesne students and staff, though.

Not sure that a restaurant that is only open on Fridays will do well...

Ultimately that area has a lot of potential, assuming they develop the Lower Hill site approximately as planned. So I guess my question is whether they can make it for a few years on events, Duquesne/Mercy, and a little traffic from the existing Downtown footprint.

Hey I'm no TGIFridays fan either....but anything that helps spur uptown developement I say bring it. Now if it was in the immediate Downtown or North Shore, Station Square yea wouldnt see as too much of big deal.

Fridays...meh. One of my favorite things about Pittsburgh is the number of local mom and pop restaurants. Pittsburgh has managed to hold on to its regional flavor better than a lot of cities. You can find Fridays anywhere in most cities, and a dozen other chains that are almost identical. They serve safe predictable food that is little more than an over priced TV dinner.
