Romney, Palin Lead Reduced GOP Field for 2012

Just seeing peoples thoughts on this , how cool would it be if a pittsburgher became president?

If Dr. Paul runs I will certainly vote for him. However, there is no doubt that the media blackout and smear campaign will continue against him like it did last election so there is little hope of him getting elected.

A Pittsburger would be great, depending of course on their views, Paul would be an unmitigated disaster.

More proper for the politics board me thinks.

He might as well not be from Pittsburgh as far as I'm concerned.

He's 75 friggin years old, and the oldest elected President was Regan at 69. I just don't see Paul as someone the Republican Party could rally around. Just another Texan - he's been there since the 60's.

Please don't tar Pittsburgh as responsible for that nutcase. He's Texas' problem, not ours.

No love for Santorum as our native-son candidate?

Not all of Paul's positions on domestic policy are necessarily "nutty", but many are extremely bad and/or immoral ideas, like eliminating FEMA, opposing the Civil Rights Act of 1964, or wanting to put our currency back on a gold standard.

Rep. Ron Paul on FEMA's natural disaster response – CNN Press Room - CNN.com Blogs on fema

Dr. Ron Paul's Gold Standard - Forbes.com on gold standard

and im sure the civil rights act has to do with property rights and his liberterian leanings, its fine to disagree but to call him a nutcase idk about that, close to the thinking of the founding fathers...

It is disingenuous to say that Paul's position on the Civil Rights Act is immoral. Paul is not against the Civil Rights Act because he supports segregation. He believes that the Commerce Clause does not grant power to the government to tell private businesses who they must serve. He interprets the Commerce Clause in the same way that James Madison did in his letter Joseph Cabell:
Yet it is very certain that it grew out of the abuse of the power by the importing States in taxing the nonimporting, and was intended as a negative and preventive provision against injustice among the States themselves, rather than as a power to be used for the positive purposes of the General Government, in which alone, however, the remedial power could be lodged.
It has nothing to do with his moral beliefs.
