Thumbs down Former Braddock manager sentenced for thefts

Former Braddock manager sentenced for thefts

Probation?! Anyone else outraged? She stole $170,000 from the poorest community in Allegheny county, the 9th poorest community in the NATION and gets probation?

Wow!

What are the terms of her probation?

What happens whenshe falls off the gambling wagon? What if she doesn't pay restitution?

Will she then do jail time? Is that what it means that she will be "closely monitored?"

The defendent here definitely had a good lawyer. Most embezzlers of this kind of money get sent to prison in Pennsylvania.

The only one I remember who didn't was the priest in Indiana Township who was in the nursing home and died before charges could be brought forward.

If she hadn't embezzled this money, Braddock Hospital would still be open and the Mon Fayette Expressway never would have been thought of.

That was my childhood church. You're talking about Fr. Benz.

I always thought it was funny that his last name was Benz and he embezzled money and owned a Mercedes.

There was a secretary too. I wonder if she was ever sentenced.

I don't know if this story makes me sad or angry. Or both. What do you guys think of the incoming manager--think he/she will be any better?

I agree, I think I feel both angry and sad. Especially since ALL she will have to repay is about 17k. How is that fair? She stole from just about the poorest boro in the state. Deppressed? Gambling problem? That's enough of a reason?

We have an interim manager at this time, who seems fair and knowledgeable.

Unfortunately there are people out there that will steal.

The question now is who was supposed to be keeping an eye on this individual, and what could they have done better?

What are the mayor and borough controller doing to prevent this kind of thing from getting so out of control in the future?

I met an older lady recently who is on unsupervised probation for embezzling from PA while she was working for the state.
Not sure of the amount, under $100,000 I think.
