Getting Transfered to New Stanton area
My husband is getting transfered to New Stanton, PA. Could anyone give me any advice on communitees/towns in that area that have a good school systems? My Children are in 4th, 6th and 9th grade. All three love hockey-are there any good hockey clubs in this area? Do any high schools in the area have a girls hockey team? I have a squirt A, Peewee A and a U-14 girl.
Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you.

Regarding the hockey (hopefully you mean ice....)
The various high schools in the area have teams - freshman, JV and varsity.
There is also Club Hockey. The Westmoreland Eagles are in Greensburg (they play out of Nevin Arena); there is also the Allegheny Badgers (they play out of Delmont Center Ice, easily accessed from New Stanton via Toll 66).
The Hempfield Area school district encompasses most of that general area. They are good but large.

To Pitt Chick
Thank you for your response. What do you think of the Latrobe school district? It came out as ranked the highest High School in a 20 mile radius of New Stanton. (along with Franklin Regional HS). How is Unity township? - noticed alot of nice houses for sale there. I am finding this info in the internet - haven't seen the area in person yet. Thank you for your advice.

Latrobe is a really neat little city. I am not familiar with schools or anything, but have some friends that have a really, really nice affordable home overlooking downtown and the hills in the background. All of their neighbors have kids and they seemed fine.
Definately something to put on your check out list.

The Greater Latrobe School District did very well by my children (and I still volunteer there)!
And my husband and I really like Unity Township... and have for the last 20 years.

Lots of sports opportunities for Hockey in this area. I think someone already answered your questions about that issue. Do you want a rural, quite area to live in? Or do you want a hustle/bustle type of area close to stores and the Westmoreland Mall? Call the tax collector's office for Unity Twp. I'd give you his name, but he might object on the internet. Personal friend of mine and a great guy. If he's allowed, he'll give you good advice on areas around the Latrobe school district. The family that owns and runs Glengarry Golf Links I believe also runs the hockey arena in Delmont if I'm not mistaken. I know they have lots of housing for sale by the golf course if either of you golf. Perfect situation and only minutes from Rt. 30 and the Steelers' training camp at St. Vincent College. Hempfield is a big school district with some big problems right now. No winning football team in years! Soccer and other sports have taken over and you generally have a better clientel to deal with. If you want less expensive property, hop over the county line into Fayette and kids could go to Southmoreland School District or Mt. Pleasant which borders the county line. Two smaller better districts with more personalized instruction for kids. Connellsville is the only school in Fayette County that has it's own hockey team and their coach is a pretty reliable respectable guy. His wife teaches at the local high school and they are nice solid people. However the school district just lost over 60 teacher's to retirement this year so they will be breaking in a lot of new people. Probably not a good situation for the short term from that aspect. I hope this helps out as I've lived in both counties and worked in the general area all my life. Take care, "The Doc"....

New Stanton
You really can't go wrong with the schools in the area...Hempfield Area, Latrobe, Franklin Regional, Penn Trafford. Hempfield (serves New Stanton) is the biggest.
