Proposal would outlaw teacher strikes in Pennsylvania

Finally, a "progressive" step in the right direction in PA (37 states have similar laws). Either proposal would work for me: Total ban on teacher's strikes but more difficult to get passed or, financial repurcussions if teachers decide to strike.

Both options get the point across .

Long overdue, imo. Most states ban police and fire fighters from going on strike, and our military certainly cannot go on strike. It's time to stop holding the hands of these liberals and treat them like adults. If they don't like it, they can move on to another profession. The economy is soaring, so sayeth King Barack.

Frankly, I would think that teachers would actually be in favor of this because I would think that they would not want to teach until the end of June. Personally, I don't think the existing right to strike law allows the teachers to make significant contractual gains because they can't go on indefinitely.

If these teachers were soooooo concerned about educating our children because they are our future, thye would be in the classroom teaching, not outside holding a picket sign begging for more money.

I'd prefer waterboarding until they gave in to contract demands but meh, can't always get what you want.

Seriously, what is the harm in legislating that teachers work under the terms of the old agreement until a new one is reached (w/o striking). Apparently the old agreement was good enough to work under for 3, 4 or 5 years so whats another couple weeks or months? The only ones hurt by the strikes are the kids and the parents who have to make different arrangements (when both parents work) during the strike.

I say fine, if the teachers want to strike, let them, but for every day they strike, they lose 2 days of equivalent pay. 99.99% of strikes will never happen and an agreement will be reached.

If 37 other states feel that education is so important that they outlawed strikes, then it can't be such a bad idea.
