Pirates TV ratings have increased 33% this season with a 4.52 rating. Only the Indians, Rangers and Giants have had larger percentage increases.

Doing the math, that means the Pirates had about a 3.40 share during the first half of last season, which is actually pretty damn good given the quality of the team last year, and over the last 18 years, for that matter. From what I can tell, ratings in the mid-3's would be about midpack among all teams, and ratings in the mid 4's would be firmly in the top half, but not in the top 10.

The Cardinals and Phillies have phenomenal TV ratings for baseball. This is proof that St. Louis is a baseball town first, and Philadelphia is underrated among extra-large sports cities.

Dodger (1.19) and Angels (1.11)...ouch! I know there are a lot of things to do in L.A. but those numbers seem ridiculously low.

I'm not surprised the Pirates have done better than expected given the 18 year drought. People always like to throw dirt on the small market cities but in reality, some of these markets are the most stable in baseball. Imagine if the Angels, D-Backs, or Mariners had a losing stretch like the Buccos. I'd be willing to bet at least one of them would have folded or left town by now. But cities like Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, KC manage to keep teams that have perpetually underperformed.

Not surprised about the Phillies numbers. For a big market, they have always done pretty well, even in the losing seasons. They have stayed firmly in 2nd place in the Philly market, behind the Eagles. I think their legendary broadcast team kept people tuning in through all of the dreadful years in the 80s and 90s.

Being the worst team in baseball for the past 20+ years, I guess we had no where to go but up. Great to see they are a .500 team in a weak division which puts them in the hunt a little. Thankfully it is a weak division which makes it more interesting for fans.

how was their season this year did they win more games ? because in the past they sucked. It be cool if they won a world series, Steelers win superbowl and the Peguins win the Stanley cup all in the same year

Wow, tied for first place! Even though we are in a weak division it is exciting! Hope they pull it off.

The period from July 25 through August 28 will make or break the Pirates.
