Google maps recommends going Us 30 to lincoln highway to route 172.....but those roads look like 2 lane roads (1 in each direction)
Here is their recommendation

I think I should take turnpike 76 then go south on highway 77 in Ohio to get there.
I am from DC and the easy part is getting to Pitts.....I am unclear which is the fastest way.
Any Help?

By far, the easiest way is turnpike to ohio, get off the turnpike to stay ON 76 west (turnpike in ohio is I80) then take 77 south at akron. That'll take you right into canton from the north.

(went to college in akron)

thanks for the advice. You hear alot about how people rely too much on GPS and I suspected that Google was steering me wrong.
Google does point out that while its 40 miles longer on the turnpike, its still just as quick.

I hope you take Google's advise and take the two lane roads. No way would I drive up to that Turnpike from there. Ohio if flat and VERY easy to pass cars. The roads are also very nice in Ohio. Take the shortest route in that state and don't ride 40 miles out of the way just to get on a dumb highway. Big mistake.

Wow, I really can't believe anyone would drive that far out of the way to get on a highway in the state of Ohio. I can see maybe in West Virginia or Tennessee, but in Ohio? Goes to show you there are lots of very inexperienced drivers out there. No way is that a better idea to drive that far north to get on a highway in that state. Ohio has great smaller roads and is nothing like PA. 40 miles out of the way? Go for it if you like to waste gas and time.

It's about the same drive time taking highways all the way. I'm from Canton originally so I travel home a lot. I've taken all the routes. The problem with the country roads is that you are going to get stuck behind a LOT of slow drivers, there are a ton of stop-go-stop-go-stop-go intersections along the way. That kind of stuff drives me insane and can also waste a lot of gas. If that doesn't bother you, it may be the good way to go.

For me, the highway is a much better drive... you can set your cruise control, listen to music and chill out. It takes about the same time as the country roads.

I can't comment on the US 30 to 172 route but I'd advise against taking US 30 all the way. The stretch between East Liverpool and Canton is slow going.

On a side note, why isn't Route 30 not marked on Google Maps? Every other highway, both US and state, is designated with their number. US 30 is not....you really have to zoom in to see the words "US 30 - Lincoln Highway" on the road itself. Makes it confusing to find the route.

I do understand. If it takes the same amount of time, I think I will take the 40 miles less route. Depends what you are driving as well. If you are driving an SUV, it is too hard to pass, but I drive a European Sports Sedan and I can pass like the wind.
