This is a positive article... However I find it hard to believe that Charlotte, Raleigh, Columbus and Atlanta are all at the bottom. All of those cities have jobs, growth and better wages than Pittsburgh.

define "american dream"...a HOUSE. i thought it was established again and again that real estate in the pittsburgh metropolitan area is a bargain. this wont last forever, but sure, if raleigh, et al have growth and better wages, a home is pricier. is there any mystery to this?

This article about Pittsburgh being #2 seems to be inaccurate. Also note allegheny county is one of the highest property taxed counties in the country.

Columbus has a median housing price of 154,000 and median income of 53,900 a year. The taxes are much cheaper.

Charlotte has a median housing price of 153,000 and a median income of 53,000 a year. Taxes are cheaper here.

Raleigh has a median household income of 60,000 a year. The median house price is 170,000. Taxes are cheaper.

Pittsburgh has a median income of 50,400 a year. The median housing price is 154,000.

This article states atlanta has cheaper housing than pittsburgh. Their median income is 54,000 a year which is higher than pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh has the fourth lowest median income in the USA ahead of only detroit, tampa and miami.

So how are they coming up with Pittsburgh as #2? These places are doing much better in wages, growth, housing and unemployment. Except Atlanta....

So what is is based upon? All of these cities have a cheaper cost of living, higher wages, population growth and better unemployment than pittsburgh. Only atlanta has a higher unemployment rate.

I have no idea. I have been seeing these articles promoting Pittsburgh constantly over the past several years. There are lots of places with cheap houses, and houses in the city are no longer that cheap, so it can't be that. We no longer have the lowest unemployment rate, so it's not that.

That said, I like Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania, and I have attained the American Dream here, so no complaints.
