Default Mailing address in Pgh?

I'm kind of confused about the mailing address situation in the area. We're buying a house in Mt. Lebo, and if I put in the address w/ Mt. Lebo, PA it works fine in google, but it'll also spit back the correct location w/ a pittsburgh, pa address.

I assume they are interchangeable, but what is the general convention?

Anything with a zip code that starts with 152 should use a Pittsburgh mailing address, if I'm not mistaken.

I think the PO accepts both for the Mt Lebanon zip. Junk mail will probably say Pittsburgh.

I live in Perry South. I get mail that gets to me with both Pittsburgh and Observatory.

Interchangeability seems to be the name of the game.

Historically all "152" are designated as Pittsburgh zips..."151" is a standalone Municipality. I have seen people use Pittsburgh, PA on 151's with no problem as well...All USPS cares about really is the zip

Most people use Pittsburgh because it's more familiar than the local municipalities. Most people within Allegheny County use "Pittsburgh." Once you cross the county line,I think that'swhen they stop using "Pittsburgh."

I had a friend who lived in Mount Lebanon when I was growing up, and I mailed things to him in Mount Lebanon, PA, 15243, IIRC.

Interesting and I never knew that. Thanks.

Fox Chapel is another place that uses Pittsburgh, PA and not Fox Chapel, PA. FC is 15215 and 15238. Oakmont is 15139 and they write Oakmont. Verona is 15147 and they write Verona, so it seems Blackbeauty is correct in my neck of the woods.

I think the post office will deliver no matter what city you put on as long as the zip code is there. I remember in the old days before zip codes, if people wrote the street address and just wrote "city" after it, the mail somehow got to the right place. Those days are looong gone.

Verona is 15147. Sorry to nitpick. Ironically, there are more people in Penn Hills who use the Verona zip code than in Verona itself! I believe Penn Hills uses 15147, 15235, and 15221 (perhaps more?).
