Penn Mac has a place to eat, or take out fresh pasta that you cook at home?
Take out fresh pasta. Red pepper linguine is killer.

sorry to hijack, but are there any italian restaurants in this city that don't serve ridiculously rich food?

I went to Piccolo Forno and most of the dishes seemed like some variation of noodles baked in cheese and heavy cream sauce..

Yes. Here's a dish to try -- Angel hair with tomato, basil, and garlic from Alexander's. Simple, relatively light, and good.

Red pepper linguine sounds GREAT! I will have to try that! I go to Penn Mac more in the Fall and Winter because that is when I start making Pizza at home again.

Thanks for the tip.

Does anyone have any idea if any of the pasta joints make wheat free pasta? We have bought some at Giant Eagle and Whole Foods but it would be nice to go out every so often. My wife has developed a wheat intolerance/allergy and there we are just looking for options.

I apologize if I'm wrong but I think that Ciao 2 in Robinson (Settler's Ridge) makes their own pasta.

We went to the new Lilly's gourmet pasta last night in Sq Hill. I am not sure how to rate it.

The completely misread their demographic & people aren't quite sure of the concept yet, so there were several unhappy customers while we were there.

It's like a pizza joint, but pasta. So there are only a few tables and the restaurant isn't comfortable. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I think their main focus is take out/delivery.

My dish was okay- I got fusili with sage cream sauce. The sauce was good, the pasta underdone. I asked for it al dente- but the texture was just not pleasant. Fiance got the lasagna. The sauce was very good and taste good overall, but the bottom piece of pasta was unchewable and the whole thing was rather greasy.

I want to give them another try once they've settled in because I like the concept.

As for non-rich dishes in the Burgh... they're all over the place...?!?

My favorite Italian place is Girasole in Shadyside, but I don't think they make their own pasta
