I just saw a clip on ABC News about the Marilyn Monroe statue on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The statue depicts a provocative scene from the move Seven Year Itch where Marilyn's white dress blows up revealing her shapely legs. This got me wondering when Pittsburgh will get it's long talked about statue of native son Gene Kelly's scene from Singing In The Rain. That is also a very iconic scene from American movie history. The long-delayed Gene Kelly statue may yet grace a Downtown corner

By 2006 and perhaps earlier, Mrs. Kelly was meeting with architects here about her own Gene Kelly project for Pittsburgh. In a 2007 profile on the Pittsburgh architectural firm Astorino, the Post-Gazette reported that Mrs. Kelly and Joanne Rogers had met by chance in the firm's Firstside offices while both happened to be there to talk with architects about projects honoring their husbands. Astorino's work on the Fred Rogers statue
Please pick another architectural firm.... I think the Fred Rogers statue is awful..... it looks like some monster with leprosy waiting to scare children

Gene Kelly is more associated with East Liberty than town, so that's where his statue belongs when its finally built.

Fair enough...but I think it's important to remember that the sculptor was chosen in large part because Fred Rogers was a big fan of his work.

I think Astorino did great work on the Rogers mini-park. I don't understand holding them responsible for the sculpture itself (although I always feel compelled to note that as much as some adults dislike it, kids seem to love it).

I agree. With all the new developments in the East Liberty area, it'd be nice for the Kelly statue to end up there.
