Oh, Pittsburgh...

Negetive stories only happen in Pittsburgh. You're right. I think it is stupid when people bring up negitive stories more importantly then positive ones. You can go to any metro in America and these things happen. Hell, Logan, WV had a terrible story come out of it this week.

It was really cool yesterday. There was one guy who wrote in from Atlanta telling us how impressed and beautiful he thought our city was. I will try to find it. It just gave me the little blush of happiness after a long day of work.

This isn't uncommon at all for out-of-staters to say. In just the last six months I had someone from Tampa tell me the same exact thing (she is actually thinking about moving here, now), one from Houston, my sister-in-laws family from Denver, and one from Raleigh. All of them were quite enchanted with Pittsburgh, we take it for granted.

Loved my visit
Just returned from my first visit to Pittsburgh in 40 years and concluded that your city gets undeservedly maligned by those who haven't been there recently.
Enjoyed the great, pedestrian-friendly Downtown area, Schenley Park and the gorgeous Pitt campus, the brilliant Andy Warhol Museum, the bustling Saturday morning Strip District and dazzling views from Mount Washington. I also made the day-trip out to Fallingwater.
Everyone I encountered was genuinely nice. The airport was a dream (I'm accustomed to dealing with the nation's busiest). Count me among the converts -- I love Pittsburgh!

From the post gazette yesterday.
I read it every day in the local side of things to see on latest development and such.
Yesterday was nice, in that the city turned down the parking garage for the casino! We don't want such a ugly structure obstructing the view of one of America's greatest urban skylines from Mnt. Washington.
Todays was more bad though. It was talking about how our age group for younger people is really falling off after the boomers. However, I think once they retire and the jobs need replaced that will change.

It's always ranked among the best in the world. But these ranking take into consideration lots of things including cleanliness, food, atmosphere, family-friendliness, safety, cost etc. In those regards, absolutely, you must go, Kennywood is a ton of fun and really charming with a welcoming feel. If you are seeking pure thrill rides, then no, Kennywood only has a few and you would be better off going to Cedar Point. Btw, Kennywood is planning a HUGE addition that will make the park three times larger than it is. Phantom Fright Nights during Halloween is wicked fun.

CMU institute seeks more office space - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Quote:
Carnegie Mellon University and its Software Engineering Institute are growing, and that has led the university to seek proposals from developers for additional office space for the institute in Oakland.
CMU and the SEI are keeping mum on the reasons for the space search, but stress that the Department of Defense-funded institute will not be moving from its headquarters building at 4500 Fifth Ave.
"The Software Engineering Institute is considering some options for more office space, and we have asked for proposals to develop that space," said Teresa Thomas, a CMU spokeswoman. "A decision on a developer is probably about four to six weeks away."
Although CMU is not disclosing the amount of space it needs, developers say the request for proposals calls for about 75,000 square feet.

Goods news - but more construction! Blah!
Work to start on ramp linking Route 28, I-279 - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Quote:
Work starts Monday on a Route 28 ramp that will allow inbound drivers to move directly onto Interstate 279 toward Downtown.
PennDOT's $7.9 million ramp linking the two highways -- when completed next September -- would become a much faster alternative to exiting Route 28 at East Ohio Street in the North Side to connect with I-279.
Drivers will benefit, but Allegheny Sandwich Shoppe owner Nick Mastros said the situation is similar to PennDOT's construction of I-279 -- the Parkway North -- about 20 years ago.
Before I-279's construction, Western Avenue -- where Mastros' shop is located -- was a main artery for drivers heading to and from the West End Bridge. The bridge was a main route to reach southern destinations then, and many drivers stopped for a meal, he said.
