Here are more details about the new development in the SouthSide Works.

Hotel-condo project planned for SouthSide Works

Quote:
"The arrival of this development to the SouthSide Works brings a new level of style and sophistication to the project," Soffer said. "The project will meet the expectations of business travelers, tourists, and residents looking for a wonderful new venue for business and pleasure."

The sale of the property by the URA to DOC-Economou represents an ongoing shift to a more diversified team of developers for the SouthSide Works, said Rick Belloli, executive director of the South Side Local Development Co.

Previously, Belloli said, Soffer was expected to develop and own the entirety of the 34-acre, mixed-use plan. But last year, American Eagle Outfitters acquired the 187,000-square-foot Quantum I office building that it now occupies as its administrative headquarters, as well as an adjoining parcel on which it is constructing a second building.

Downtown is getting a second YMCA. The first will be the relocation of the already well-established YMCA branch from the Boulevard of the Allies to the old G.C. Murphy Store (also currently being converted into living and retail). The second will be opened in the bottom floor of the US Steel Tower.

U.S. Steel Tower to be home to YMCA's 2nd Downtown branch

Quote:
The Downtown YMCA will open a second location in the U.S. Steel Tower this summer.

YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh officials will announce the expansion during a donors appreciation dinner in the Union Trust Building this evening.

At the new branch, in the basement of the U.S. Steel Tower, members will be able to avail themselves to the same array of programs, including health and fitness training, available at the main location on the Boulevard of the Allies. The only missing amenity will be a swimming pool.

"The impact the YMCA at U.S. Steel Tower will have on our community is huge," he said. "This location will allow us to reach out and engage all of those who seek well-being of spirit, mind, and body."

Here is a two-page article about everything that has been happening in terms of Cleveland and Pittsburgh working together fiscally and economically. So far, few gains have been seen, but it's new and a lot of initiative is coming. It's a very interesting read and it proves the two cities are going to work together to add synergy to the "Greater Pittsburgh and Cleveland metro"

Pittsburgh, Cleveland work together, but little financial gain yielded so far

BTW, I was kindly informed that there are some new rules when it comes to copy-righted material, so from now on I can only post blurbs that are between 2 and 3 sentences long.

Just a heads up.

That's not even really worth it most of the time, so from now on you'll be getting mostly links.

Here is the developers website for the new Hotel South Side Works project.

If you click the three "squares" below the blurb, you can see the 3 official renderings from DOC. It really is worth it to look, they are stunning. It will be a beautiful and classy addition to the growing South Side Works.

Pittsburgh is losing one Hilton (being converted into condo's) but gaining a brand new one downtown built from scratch! Good news all around!

New Hilton planned on jail annex site Downtown

Quote:
Allegheny County has reached a deal with Kratsa Properties to build a 156-room Hilton Garden Inn at the site of the old jail annex on Ross Street.

The county's Industrial Development Authority approved the sale of the property to Kratsa for $1.55 million this morning. The six-story hotel also will feature underground parking on the site, which is nearly half an acre.

Pittsburgh made ANOTHER impressively high ranking, albeit a silly one. Pittsburgh is in a three-way tie for fifth place in superpages.com "Top 10 Holly-Jolliest Cities"

Pittsburgh ranks high on 'Holly' list

Quote:
Top city awards just keep rolling in for the 'Burgh.

"Pittsburgh tied for fifth," says Andy Shane, a spokesman for Superpages.com, an online telephone directory of local and national businesses. "It's very jolly despite the weather."

The rankings are based on the number of listings a city has in the Superpages.com categories: "Christmas Decorating," "Christmas Decorations & Lights Retail," "Christmas Shops," and "Christmas Trees & Wreaths Retail."

This is sort of my own news since no article goes along with it, but I believe I saw that Barnes & Nobles is now open for the public at Duquesne University in the new building between Fifth and Forbes Ave.

Yay!!

My pleasure. I won't post on some of the threads I think are lame or destructive, I wish people would just let them die already.
