I'd also vote for any development in Mt. Washington being kept on a human scale, architecturally consistent, and retaining historical housing stock wherever practical. Among other things, that is more in keeping with what young professionals want these days, and that is who I would think the target market would be.

Out with the old and in with new, Homewood is getting new development!

Lawrenceville is getting more stuff on Butler St! Geeze..
Anyway, they are getting the second location of Dozen Cupcakes. I imagine this will be a fine idea considering the first location brought in 340,000 dollars last year. *BOING*

St. Casimir condo's in the southside passed the 50% occupancy rate. They are REALLY cool, having been converted from a former schoolhouse.

Some of this is old news, but here's a write-up on some of the stuff coming to Ross Park. On top of these announcements, they are also adding a 55,000-square-foot lifestyle center with at least one new restaurant and other undisclosed projects. Of course, Ross Park Mall itself will be getting the region's only Nordstrom's, Tiffany & Co, and will also be getting a White House Black Market and Steamers Coffee & Tea Company.

Another phase of 62 million dollars worth of development is about to start at the Southside Works. It consists of 3 main projects, one is a Hofbrauhaus German Restaurant (this is sort of neat that the SSW will have an Irish Pub, a German Restaurant, and a Tapas Bar), a 48 million dollar 4-star hotel, and the first phase of Southside Works Riverfront Park (which I believe will actually be a "green" park and not an "industrial" park). Also to note, Quantum Building III is under construction which will also be assimilated by American Eagle headquarters, and American Eagle has also reserved a position for a Quantum Building IV if the company continues to grow the way it is. No announcements have been made on officially requesting a fourth building, though.

This was already mentioned in another thread, but here is an article about how the CEO's of four major companies in Pittsburgh have pledged to use KLM Dutch Airlines if they set up a direct route to Amsterdam (which they have been talking about for a few months, now). The companies are Westinghouse Electric Co., Medrad Inc., Lanxess Corp. and Heinz Continental Europe. Maybe this will be the start of getting back direct European flights to Pittsburgh International. BTW, in case you're wondering, Pittsburgh International planes are able to fly across the ocean and to ANY city in Europe on one tank of fuel. Not every American city can do that, so there is no reason PIT shouldn't have international.

Thumbs up Bakery Square

I posted about this a month or so ago in a separate thread, but this thread seems like an appropriate place too.

This new shopping center/office space/hotel is going in at the border of East Liberty and Point Breeze, just up the street from Trader Joe's on Penn. It's just part of the rehabilitation efforts in East Liberty.
