I happened to be walking by that cool firehouse in the Strip on Penn and I walked over to look in the window wondering what was going on. There were a few people standing outside, but I had no idea they were the owners of the place. They asked if they could help me, and I just said, I thought the building was really cool and didn't know what was going on with it. The told me they were opening a wine bar/ italian restaurant. Simple good food, they said. The upstairs was going to be for parties and such. The building is really nice and there is parking included on both sides. Interesting the last place didn't make it, but maybe the Strip is a tough go? The building alone would get me there, but I never went to the other place, so I guess I just never knew what it was.

The "last place" was great; you kind of missed out. Embury had the whole prohibition speakeasy thing going, etc. Whatever is going in, I'm betting it will be a downgrade.

I always intended to make it to Embury for drinks, and I never did.

The one time I was there (back in 07 I think) it was fairly expensive compared to other locations. Clubs in the strip seem to struggle as it is.

Italian is my favorite, if it's good.

Firehouse didn't go out of business, they were forced out by the building owners.

The word on the street is that Embury will reopen somewhere in either East Liberty or Shadyside. I hope that word is correct. A location in Easy Lib. would be great.

I hope this turns out to be a decent place to eat!! There really isn't many options in the strip to eat. (especially good ones) Italian does well in this area, however with bloomfield up the road and teh countless other places (lida's etc) .. they better come correct
