Where the locals couldn't care less about collegiate athletics. How is this helping Pitt again?
I don't know why you'd think this is the case, unless "collegiate athletics" only means football.

Drunk fat yinzers fighting each other and screaming "sheepf--kers!" at my friends and I. The worst of the boorish drunken dregs of our fanbase are pedestrian compared to the way that the everyday Pittsburgh treats complete strangers, and I've had 5 years as of this week to observe it in person. People killing each other with their vehicles for convenience, but Pitt fans cry when they hear a little foul language.
Given the behavior of the Cameron Crazies, that would almost be poetic justice.

I know quite a few grads from both schools and have never heard of anything remotely close to this.

Though i guess I equally missed the memo where Pittsburgh has become a backwater town filled with ignorent, rude trash compared to our more enlightened Morgantown neighbors.

Everyone I know that have visited Pittsburgh have left remarking how nice and friendly the people are hmmmm

I am sorry but an inferiority complex toward CMU by Pitt students is something that I have to call out. CMU is more of a specialty school focusing on fields such as engineering and music, most Pitt students would not go there due to CMU not offering their field of study. Yes CMU is likely a "better school", but someone majoring in a field such as nursing or economics would not attend there. Guess I have been living under a rock

Pitt students regard CMU as the elite school that it is, and don't really compare Pitt to it. Two different animals.

Pretty much, it's like comparing slingshots to sofas

I know of several people who chose Pitt over CMU (in engineering/science!) because of Pitt scholarship and paltry aid from CMU

No I mean period. In places like BC, Miami, and Georgia Tech are not heavily supported in their respective towns.

Great places to visit yes, but if you're going as a visiting fan you're not going to experience anything even resembling tailgating or the atmosphere you'll find elsewhere.

Yeah the people are nice...if you compare them to Philly, NYC, DC, Baltimore.

"backwater town filled with ignorent"

I get that you're being sarcastic with the 'backwater' comment, but the irony is that Morgantown (as a college town mind you) is probably more enlightened and accepting compared to this city as a whole. Both my wife and I work with bigots, and we aren't exactly cleaning toilets either. There are a lot of trashy, discourteous people in our city regardless of income level and I see it every day. It takes a while to get used to it, and occasionally overshadows the good about living here.

More bad news for the ACC:

Two of college football's strongest conferences just got even stronger. And the ACC, Big East and possibly Notre Dame lost much of their footing in the post-BCS landscape.

The heck with Pitt and CMU, two of my frat buddies from a small private college just North of here have about 30 patents and 10 Million bucks to their names.
