Pitt has applied to join ACC If both Pitt and Syracuse are accepted I would not be surprised to see the Big East dissolve.

On that note, I'd rather West Virginia join the ACC instead of the SEC. I don't want to hear anybody claim that southwestern Pennsylvania is "Southern" because an SEC school is only 70 miles away.

Oh, and if Pittsburgh is Midwestern, then why not the Big Ten?

Wow... Good move for pitt. I predict the big east dissolves. Notre dame goes to the big 10

ACC basketball is going to be freaking ridiculous if this happens.

I just don't see Pitt's street ball inner city style fitting in with the ACC conference. I mean the Big East just seem like a bunch of ball players that just rolled out of jail and then you have the ACC where the kids seem so much more professional. I hope they get into the ACC and they start recruiting more like Duke. That would be so much better.

One thing is certain. If The Big East wants to remain a competitive BCS conference they are going to have to get more aggressive and bring in at least two decent teams to replace Syracuse and Pitt and then also look at expanding beyond 10 teams to perhaps 12 or even 14. Clearly college athletic conferences are starting to realign and some of the smaller conferences will be rendered all but useless as the large conferences grow larger. Baylor and Iowa State indicated they would like to join The Big East if the Big 12 dissolves. Perhaps the remaining teams in each conference should get together and form a super conference.

Pitt is a good fit for the Big 10 but Penn State has the Pa market covered with all its branch campuses...including Pittsburgh.

So the Big 10 doesn't need Pitt.

I was thinking the same thing. What is left of the Big 12 merges with what is left of the Big East.

I wonder if Notre Dame will try to join another conference or leave the Big East and become totally independent?

Absurd comments here.

Nevertheless, this move is not about basketball; it's about TV revenue, and PITT'S unhappiness with the Big East's lack of action over the last year.
