If her world means the educated and gainfully employed, then your response must mean that they'd rather be drug dealers or hookers on the street corners.

Amazing how much sh-- one poster can stir up, esp. when that poster is probably a well-known troll...

1) Not everyone "gainfully employed" is "educated" in the sense that you mean. The idea that anyone who prefers Ebonics is ipso facto a drug dealer, *****, or aspires to be is completely racist.
2) In some places, for some people, aspiring to be a drug dealer, rapper or girlfriend or paid escort of same is not an irrational or "unintelligent" choice. It's a choice of people who do not have the same values as white, middle class people. It simply does not imply these same people are "unintelligent." They make choices you find stupid, because they do not fit with your values. Your life looks equally stupid to them, for other reasons. Which isn't to say there aren't lots more people who get sucked into that counter culture because of lack of education, intelligence, personal will, character, whathaveyou -- but it does not imply that everyone involved is dumber than you. The people at "the top" everywhere are intelligent, charismatic, and brilliant communicators in whatever language/idiom obtains in their milieu. |

Fair enough -- I personally think disagreement is more interesting than listening to everyone slap each other on the back about how we all love Mt Lebanon (and I am tarring myself with that brush, I love it too) -- so I really don't care if the conversation was sparked by a troll or not, it's still interesting. Obviously, I have a personality flaw in that I love to argue though, so, you know, if you want me to shut up, just stop replying.

Well great, this is just what the Pittsburgh forum needs -- yet another poster who insists on steering a thread 386 miles off-topic through 27 pages.
Thanks for the reminder of why I stopped coming around this forum in the first place. |

I agree, Drover. I'm not falling for it anymore. I'm leaving this discussion. It's become silly anyway.

I'd suggest they get over themselves, but they claim not to be listening...
