Downtown-not so much, unless you include cultural events and tapa lounges as nightlife.

Oakland-Decent. Not what it was circa 1980s. Much of it has shifted to the South Side

South Side=Outststanding. From Station Square to South Side Works rivals any two mile stretch anywhere.

Squirrel Hill- There are not many bars in Squiirel Hill, yet, it has a great street scene late into the evening. If I want to be a good boy and stay sober but still want to get out of the house on Friday Night, Squirrel Hill is often an option with it's plethora of restaurants and places for sweet treats afterwards.

Shadyside-very good, certainly much better than when I lived there in the 1980s. Ellsworth and Walnut both have decent scenes, so as a whole the neighborhood rates high for nightlife.

Bloomfield and Lawrenceville each have a lot of bars.

The Strip used to downright rock on weekends about a decade or so ago. Dummies brought the guns and used them. People got scared and stayed home. The clubs mostly closed. The Strip nightlife is relagated to a few clubs. I will say that I predict a new life for night life in the Strip. It will be more the form of gastropubs along with restaurants and dance clubs. This will go hand in hand with more residents moving in.

Thank you for the thorough reply, my friend.

Would you describe Pittsburgh as a place where you can find a lot of things to do at any given time?

Pittsburgh has tons to do seven days a week. Just pick up a fanzine and there are countless things to. Those who suggest otherwise need to look in the mirror to see who the real bore is. There is something for everybody and plenty of it. No, we are not New York, we are Pittsburgh, and that is good enough to suit most people's fancy.

I also recommend Southside if you're really looking to rage, but there are a lot of great options elsewhere, as some posters have already mentioned.

Sure. I like going out during the week, actually I prefer it to the weekend. Here are some of the things that I do:

Monday
Open Mic Night @ Club Cafe (Excellent place to find local talent)
$5 Tickets at Southside Works Loews Theatre

Tuesday
Bowling at Arsenal Lanes

Wednesday
Bluegrass Night at Park House
Pasta Night at Monterey Pub

Thursday
Thunderbird Cafe (great local concert venue)

Friday
Ride one of the bike trails
Southside, Shadyside, Lawrenceville Bars

Saturday
Street food in the Strip District
Cultural District Event
Pitt football games
Casino
