Boylocke, Sonny's crew still runs New Ken, and that's a fact. I'm not trying to be positive nor negative. I'm just stating a fact.

Gee that's funny, I didn't realize dead men could run a town. You do know their blood line is now pretty much non-existent? If the Mannarino's have any presence in New Ken it is absolutely insignificant.

You sound pretty sure. How would you know for sure?

lol, I'm positive! I grew up not a stone throw away from New Kensington, my mum was born and raised in New Kensington when it was still a beautiful city, and my best friend's dad is a New Kensington Cop.

The Mannarino blood line pretty much ended with a bunch of female offspring. I don't think a single brother is left in Pittsburgh, but my dad thinks there is still one sister left and possibly a couple cousins. Their old watering hole was the Bonfire out in Leechburg.

Trust me, they are no more. And the few of them that might have stuck around in Pittsburgh, well, they have no authority. :P

I would be willing to bet that there's still plenty of mafia activity in New Kensington, and all around the Allegheny and Kiski valley as well. Maybe not as predominant as it was back in the day, but it's still there.

Well that's a lot different than what you said before. I still think any mafia presence is fairly insignificant, but you might be right. Italian mafia's overall are on the fall. They are weak and broken. Chinese and Russian mafia's are the big boys in town, now.

Town being the USA.

Wink Scary Mobsters In New Ken Are Long Gone

Nothing special good or bad. Verona, Springdale, New Ken, etc....all give me the same vibe: "I don't wanna be here, this sucks". The only town in that little stretch of the river that's half decent is Oakmont. Oakmont looks somewhat pretty, but there's not to much to do there except eat and/or drink in a bar. Then again, I just described most of Pittsburgh as far as the "to do" list.

One thing about New Ken (and surrounding communities): I wouldn't try to open a bar there. People in that valley are very local-oriented, and like someone else said here about the "Italian family" who "used" to "run" New Ken: are you sure they don't still? Better to not take a chance. It would be too bad if you-a well-meaning "outsider" rolled into town and opened up a new pub. Some of the long-time bar/pub owners in New Ken might not be so happy about that. And IF that um, "Italian family" still exists in New Ken, then guess what: the current bar owners might be slipping a little money every month to them to insure themselves some protection against well-meaning business people coming in. Then u end up with a bunch of problems.

New Ken WAS notorious for that kind of thing, and if it were me, I wouldn't take a chance, because that "element" might still be there. Do you really need that kind of a headache?
WOW,
ANY OF US FROM THIS AREA, CAN TELL YOU AREN'T. UNFORTUNETLY, THE FAMILY IS DEAD AND NO ONE EVER REALLY TOOK OVER THE TOWN OR IT WOULD STILL BE ALIVE. I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T OPEN A BAR THERE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE CLIENTELE, NOT BECAUSE OF ANY
OOOO SCAREY MOBSTERS. lol

SEction eight has ruined alot of areas in the pgh area...and I have heard of the mob keeping the areas up myself...I agree.

I would never live in New Ken..and so my two cents is to steer clear of the area.

I lived in New Ken for 2 years. I was 1/2 way up the hill. lol New Ken is such a neat place. Yes it does have the reputation of being a "crack" town and along with that go a few protitutes. BUT The buildings on 4th and 5th where the old Pittsburgh beauty academy is...If people would purchase the buildings and open business's that place would be back up and running like the mafia never left.lol The charecter of that place is out of this world. Some of the stonework is amazing.... I worked for a women in New Ken thats was given a blueprint for what they want to do with the waterfront. It was amazing that was almost a year ago and I haven't seen any sign of it but it was awesome!!! If you could financally open a resturante and bar and keep it open for a five year period with just your regulers. I'd ask for a job cause eventually history repeats itself!!!

I agree completely. They want to do this, too, starting with westmoreland community college extension.

There are still a lot of nice places to live in New Kensington, make no mistake about that. Just not too many downtown.
