I finally had the chance to eat at Wingharts there this past weekend and can say that they serve quite the tasty burger. Definitely on the pricey side ($12 - with no sides for the one I got 'Shipwreck'), but will be on the list for the occassional stop.

I found Wingharts burgers to be priced quite reasonably, however I thought $9 for a shot of Jim Beam was a little steep. Regardless, it's a great place and it compliments Market Square nicely.

Agreed. When South Side Riverfront park opens by Hofbrahaus and REI next year, it has the potential of being a great anchor to a Penn's landing type of area building up around it. The right population density and demographic already exists around it.

Those are both great little projects. So many of these buildings have fantastic character remaining on the upper floors, and with the will and the funding, they can be restored into real gems.

Of course this is bittersweet for me, because I still think the PNC Tower should be preserving the facades up along Forbes (although fortunately it now looks like at least something of them may be preserved in some form).

This is fantastic! With these renovations, the only eyesore left in the square will be the hideous new deck that was attached to what is now Winghart's. I will never understand how that deck passed a review by the HRC, in my opinion that single decision inherently makes the HRC itself useless.

I had another great meal at Winghart's on Monday. It was snowing, and since it was a holiday for most folks, the people who work there were as attentive as you could want, and we shared that "looking out on the snow from a nice, warm indoor vantage point" thing for a half an hour.

I had the Market Square Burger, with bacon, gruyere, mushrooms, and honey mustard, cooked perfectly rare (something that's only rarely perfect) and French fries, which were so good, I proceeded to eat them until they were all gone, something I never do (once the burger is eaten, no more fries).

It was fun hanging out with Tara and the guys--a perfect little respite during the snow (which didn't amount to much, but we didn't know that at the time).
