I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to get from Mt. Lebanon to the airport w/o taking the T downtown to pick up the 28x Flyer (I assume there is a nearby stop downtown from the T to pick up the 28x, though I haven't figured that out for sure).

Is there something that would go to South Hills Village or the Galleria, maybe?

The 28X is the only transit at the airport, so the best you could do would be to find an alternative place to pick it up.

Maybe if you got a ride down to Carnegie and picked up the x over there?

The Port Authority used to run a 39A route between Mt. Lebanon and Carnegie, but it was discontinued.

Well, that's disappointing. Thanks, though.

There is Super Shuttle. You will have to make an appointment. More expensive than the 28X. but much cheaper than a taxi. Type an address and get a quote.

As the other posters stated... you'll be stuck with a transfer downtown if you want to take PAT. As a side note, the 28X is taking about 10-20 minutes longer then it used to as it is going through Robinson again. I was thrilled when they eliminated the Robinson stops, but with the cuts, they're back.

I begrudgingly took SuperShuttle (I've had TERRIBLE experiences with the brand in other cities) the first time a month ago for a longer trip, and was pleasantly surprised with the service here. On time, only picked up two other folks in the general direction of PIT, and arrived in a fairly timely manner. Compared to our absolutely terrible cab service, you can at least order a SuperShuttle in advance for a specific time. However, you should realize that you may only save about $10-15 compared to a cab, at least from the City.

All that said, if you have a car, and are traveling for less then a week, it's always cheaper to drive yourself to the airport and park in the extended parking area then to take a taxi or van. Its only $8/day+tax.

Oh yeah, if you and your companions are "informed" travelers, consider the upstairs TSA lanes. Especially if you'd like to skip the yinzer fly once every 20 years on WN crowd. And always take the first car on the train, you'll beat the escalator rush.
