Default Heinz Field Parking

My parents are coming up next weekend to go to the Pitt/Cincinnati game at Heinz Field. (They're UC season ticket holders.) We went to the last game that was here two years ago, and at my behest we parked downtown and walked over to the stadium, which to me seemed to work out fine. In talking to my dad, I come to find that he didn't like this arrangement and he's convinced that there just has to be a shangri-la of ample, cheap parking closer to the stadium. Is there? I was always under the impression that most of the North Shore parking is pre-sold and pricey, and more trouble than it's worth, but I'd be happy to learn that I'm wrong.

Not too pricey, but definitely presold.

I do believe that the Allegheny Center garage and/or the garage across Federal Street from the SpringHill Suites would be as close as you can get without a parking pass.

FYI, This was in yesterday's paper about some downtown street closures just before game time.

'One Shot' filming closes more city streets

Wrong game, ex-burgher.
The OP is asking about the Cincinnati game on November 5th.

There might be ample parking, but it's not cheap, and much of it is not a shorter walk than the closest downtown garages. I gather it's cheaper for Pitt games than the Steelers, but I don't really know. Now there are a few little lots here and there that will sell you a spot; the little lot (otherwise used only for company workers) at Gen. Robinson and Anderson is one example I've happened to pass on game nights before. But the price is still pretty high and how can you count on that being there? It's so small. And it's not really closer!

That's what I thought (and what I tried to tell Dad) but I wanted to do my due diligence. Thanks!

Parking is always expensive during games, some lots even charge $30 bucks for parking during a game. If you must park, get a bunch of people in the car so that each one can pitch in. Or if you're extra brave you can park pretty deep into Manchester and walk to the stadium. Just hope your car will be there when you get back. I'm partially joking.

I travel from Virginia to Pittsburgh for Steeler games. I use the www.parkwhiz.com to reserve a spot at one of the downtown garages. I paid $16.50 for the Jaguars game. I have a reservation for $22 for the Ravens game.

If you can get in at a Parking Authority garage, they are always $5 on weekends, with no event premium. It is the privately owned garages that up the price on game days. For the Utah game we parked at the 6th. St. and Fort Duquesne garage and took the water taxi from under the Clemente Bridge. If your Dad doesn't like the walking, the taxi lets you off right by the Mr. Rogers statue. You do have to pay $7/person round trip though, I think. (One time that we rode it, a company was sponsoring the taxi and the ride was free, but not this last time.) The 6th street garage does typically have very long exit wait times if you park on the higher floors.

Also don't forget about meter parking for night games. For the South Florida game a few Thursdays ago we got the first meter on Liberty Ave. near Point State Park, closer than any downtown garage, and parked for free!

Once the subway to the North Side opens next year it will be infinitely easier to park at a parking authority garage downtown for cheap and take the T to the stadium. Better than beinig gouged by the private operators on the North Side.
