The BEST preschool in town is the Child Development Center on the Seton Hill University Campus.
Georgine Hallam is the head teacher, and she really is a treasure!

I think it's a nice town with alot of potential. sure it has it's not so nice areas and it's share of crime...but what place doesn't? There are some wonderful family neighborhoods with large lots and nice big trees etc...

Just reasearch the schools and the neighborhoods where you want to live. I would not have had a problem living there with my 3 kids.

Thumbs up But Still

It could be useful for others considering the move to Western PA.

I got a chance to ride in a car not too long ago down Rt. 30.
It was a good way to see more rural parts of the state.

What do they call Pennsylvania between Pittsburgh and Philly?

Home...

My parents were raised in Hyndman, PA and I still have some family there. Genealogically speaking, we've been in that area since 1749 -- at the top of the "Three Hills" in Meyersdale. Our ancestral graveyard is at the top of the hill. (Saylor Hill) My mom's parents are buried in Union Cemetery in Meyersdale.

Or perhaps you were referring to "Pennsyltucky"?

Hello,
I have lived in Greensburg almost my entire life (over 21 years) and have always found it to be really safe. Although the drug issues are mentioned, you really have to be wrapped up in that crowd to be affected by it..I went through high school not too long ago and was never pressured to do anything like that but was aware that other students/teens were doing drugs. I went to Greensburg Central Catholic High School and got a really good education - the teachers care about the students and the small environment can be very helpful. Also, I think the numbers are like 97 percent of the students attending Central go to college. The public schools aren't too bad either, I'd recommend Greensburg Salem over Hempfield just because Hempfield High is ridiculously large and most of the people I talked to that went there didn't like it due to the sheer size and feeling of anonymity. Some neat things to check out - there's a really great restaurant called Jioio's (located close to Greensburg Central Catholic H.S.) that has great pizza - has a sweeter sauce and is quite addicting. The only drawback to the town is that there aren't too many things to do besides go to the mall, movies, and hang out at the bars (that aren't too different). I would also suggest living in the "northern part" of Greensburg as opposed to South Greensburg - the northern part has more families, nicer houses, and a closer, more friendly feel which is ideal for families.

I hope this helps!

Talking South Greensburg

South and Southwest Greensburg are nice neighborhoods to live in and both have lots of character. Southwest Gbg is nice because kids can walk to school and the homes are cute with a lot of families. South Gbg is nice because "Hufftowners" are very proud of their mostly Italian neighborhood. Very old school feel with markets, stores , and restaurants that you can walk to and they are really renovating many of the older homes. Another plus is that the 5 Star trail is nearby if you enjoy biking, walking or jogging. Areas that are East of the city also have some very beautiful older homes especially in Underwood area. North Greensburg is also a great area. Homes in Northmont and Saybrook are decently priced with a nice little elementary school. I myself prefer the larger elementary city school in Gbg-Salem district because there is more diversity both racially as well as economically but all kids and families are treated equal. There are really only a few areas in Greensburg that I would totally refuse to live in. It is overall a nice place to live, work, and raise a family.

I live in Greensburg and I can honestly say it's the all-American city. Downtown is so pretty, and if you get a place in the hilltop area with views of it, it's extra nice. There's a park, nice schools, nice people, a walking trail near the train tracks. It's a great place to raise children. There are some preschools, as asked above. I can think of 2, the one in downtown greensburg I actually went to. Haha, very fond memories there.

Default South Greensburg, PA

I grew up in South Greensburg and graduated from Greensburg-Salem High School in 1963. I left the area in 1964 and have returned a few times over the years. I have been thinking about returning to South Greensburg, Greensburg or Ligonier and would like to hear from anyone who is still living in the area.

Default Returning to Greensburg

I too grew up in Greensburg (but been gone for 30 years) and are thinking of returning. Have lived in Providence, Boston and DC. Currently living in Kansas City. Thought Greensburg would be a good place for my 2 sons to grow up.

I have been reading posts about driving, crime and drugs and I'm sure it does not compare to other places I have lived.

Would be interested in hearing from others who have returned to Greensburg.
