Default Can someone tell me about this building on Rt.30 in Jeanette?

I see this building a lot along Rt.30 near Hempfield. I am pretty certain that it is actually in Jeanette though. I'm curious as to what it was, since it's obviously abandoned, and what's the story behind it. The size of it really makes it stand out. Was this an office building at one time? An apt building? Just wondering why it is being left to fall apart along Rt.30 in such a prime location. Thanks.

I had a hard time trying to upload a photo of it, so 40.310758,-79.61132 are the coordinates to pull it up on google maps and see it on street view. I'm sure anyone that drives Rt.30 between Hempfield and North Huntingdon has seen it. It's the giant 10 floor building with the weird design down the road from Delallo's.

It used to be a hospital if I'm not mistaken?

It certainly looks like it could have been used as one. Do you know how long it has been vacant?

I'm a terrible judge of time for stuff like this but I will estimate that perhaps 5 years ago I saw it illuminated from a distance, presumably occupied....someone else might be more informative

This is a different building, which is partially why I was unsure if I was correct after googling Jeannette and hospital and such.

EDIT: Though the article mentions Monsour Hospital; I think this might be the building L2G is talking about.

EDIT EDIT: there we go.

That is exactly it! It's shocking that it has only been abandoned since 2005-2006, but then I found this article about a fire there earlier this year, so that might explain why it looks like it hasn't been occupied in 20+ years.

This building is the former Monsour Medical Center, which has been closed since 2006. This was a privately owned and operated hospital by the four Monsour brothers who were all physicians. They and their family members ran the hospital as their private business. It was a bizarre situation where the hospital was constantly in bankruptcy, and in violation of many state and federal laws and regulations. This following site has some good background info.

Abandoned | Monsour Medical Center

WTAE and WPXI have run a number of investigative reports regarding the hospital and all the contaminants and drugs left behind

I was a patient there as a child, almost did not survive...I remember a little, not much...my question is..why is it not condemned? Why is it still there? Its been closed for a very long time, seems to be a huge safety issue, also its an eyesore...so what's going on?
