Default How were the crowds for Black Friday?

How were the crowds for Black Friday? Lots of shoppers or more or less the same as you'd see on any weekend?

Judging by what I saw on the news Thanksgiving night... lines to get in everywhere.

I saw people camping out at Best Buy on the 23rd. Apparently money is more important than one's time, but whatever floats your boat.

Thanks for the update, you can spot the Target associates by their red smocks.

I went to the Monroeville Best Buy around noon with a friend who truly worships at this altar, and I didn't think it was that crowded. We got a very nice hipster boy (love those skintight pants) to help us, and my friend didn't have to wait on line to pay.

I was on McKnight Road around 2:30pm to 7pm. There was zero traffic on the road. The parking lots weren't full. The stores weren't busy.

That's because all the action is in the morning. I went over to Cranberry around 6:00 or so and it wasn't busy then. Timed it well as far as I was concerned. I wasn't gift shopping, just needed to get some stuff at Lowe's.

Ten years of working on Black Fridays and even after two years, I'm still all 'black-friday'd-out'. I'll go shopping in the evenings during the week, and stay far, far away on weekends.

The thought of opening a store at midnight, on the evening of a family holiday, is absolutely horrible. I feel so badly for the employees.
Peter McKay had an extremely good column on Saturday's PG, which I completely agree with.

I've always avoided shopping areas on Black Friday because I hate crowds. But we had an urgent need for eyeglasses in my family. I was amazed it wasn't busy out there.

Greg's probably right, that it's the early risers who are rushing for those crazy deals. By afternoon, they're probably home sleeping.

btw, the department stores are always empty downtown on the weekends even during the holiday season.
