Default Cincy and St Louis suffer air hub loses too

Interesting story about Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and St Louis losing their hubs.

Flights of fancy: Pittsburgh airport's rebound a source of inspiration - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Apparently, Pittsburgh is being more realistic while Cincy wants its glory days back. Although Cincy does have DHL for cargo and is expanding but last I heard DHL backed off trying to cut into FedEx's and UPS's American market. St Louis would seem to have it good given its central location but Chicago dominates the Midwest for passenger and cargo traffic.

Being both Midwest and East seems to leave Pittsburgh in the lurch for winning air traffic. I guess the only thing it can work with is its uncongested airspace and relative closeness to the east coast and midwest but Columbus and Cleveland are pretty good too. Plus Pittsburgh isn't a great highway hub (and I still think a northeast expressway to I-80 would be a good idea). But like the collapse of its legacy industries, Pittsburgh does seem to be coping and being realistic about its expectations and hopes to pay off its airport debt by 2018.
