Default wilmerdings violent and shady past...

Wilmerding has a ton of history, some interesting old buildings and some redevelopment...the mafia ran the town in the 50s to about the mid 80s some say...the most interesting building is the " Wilmerding Castle" which was off limits to the public but today is open for tours around the holidays for a small fee...for any of you who love architecture of yesteryear...this place is for you...I grew up hanging out around the castle

Google...wilmerding westinghouse castle to find out more!

Wilmerding is one of my favorite places around Pittsburgh. I love the architecture along Airbrake Avenue and the Castle. I would love to live there eventually. Wall Boro is another fascinating eastern suburb near Wilmerding. These places are full of character.

Nice quiet town...not like it was, things have changed alot for this little town too...so many good memories of walking through wall too...it was so beautiful back then...hopefully one day things will change for this town too...about 70 percent of the people I grew up with moved to the next county...hardly anyone left I know anymore.

My Mom was born and with my grandparents lived there through the 20's until the Depression.
She used to tell stories of Klan marches down main street.

I don't have any but if you google" wilmerding, history" you may get some very old ones...hopefully someone can post some! If not, next time I visit the area, I will take some and do my best to post them!

I keep planning to do an east suburb photo tour. East Pittsburgh is another cool old town. And of course Turtle Creek. They're great for people who are looking for intact historic neighborhoods that are safe and convenient to shopping.
