It was given to me as a gift last year. I drank one of them (fresh last year) and decided that I wasn't going to drink any more. It's been sitting there ever since. (Hope there's nothing behind it!).

Not always true. Yes, for the typical American fuzzy yellow beer, but there are some Belgium beers that age very well and actually taste better with age. Most of the time your are correct though, beer is best fresh and considering 95% of the population probably drinks Coors Light or something like that, best to just buy and drink as you go.

Many beers are meant to be drank fresh (nearly all lagers for example or beers centered around hop flavor) but many more can be cellared and age for a significant amount of time. I've aged a few beers mentioned in this thread with fantastic results. Here is some good information on the subject:

The Beer Cellar: how to cellar beer and why | Love Good Beer

The last beer I aged for a significant amount of time was a 4 year old Chimay red. I cracked that sucker open and shared it with a friend and it blew our minds as to how good it was.

I love the seasonal beers the fall and winter ones are the best. I am definitely going to try some mentioned in this thread and in the article. I've had Troeg's Mad Elf before that stuff will rock your world it is 11% alcohol and doesn't taste like it at all.

Also, Anchor Brewery makes a really good winter warmer. They tweak it every year to make it different as well.
I had the Anchor Brewery Christmas/New Year ale just Friday actually...not too bad at all.

I've gone to Canada and normal beers are about 8-10% alcohol there. It's a fun time and they taste great.

Hmm. I'll have to call and see if they have them this year. I'm stumped for gifts for my 20-something nephews, and since I got everyone else stuff from Handmade Arcade/I Made It, giving them Chipotle gift cards seems like a cop-out.

If they have them let me know, I had to ask at the bar last year.

At various six pack shops they have gift packages, usually a glass and 3 beers or something similar. 3 Sons Dogs & Suds might have something like that in Wexford.

Gotta love the Belgium beer like Chimay and Gulden Draak...they are considered 2 of the best beers in the world. Go during happy hour they're half off at Sharp Edge then.
