That building is staying--the Gardens starts down the block.

They are taking off the metal facade as part of a facade improvement program all along Wood.

Here are some pics I snapped with my phone. Sorry for the weird color quality...forgot to tweak the settings.

First up, the facade coming off of the building near The Gardens:

Signage that has gone up across the street on the PNC site:

New skyline rendering. Notice it's quite a bit shorter than even Oxford Centre.

PNC did this with 3 pnc also making it shorter then what it was proposed at first which I think is annoying. What classless tacky fools decided those ugly facades were better than the nice original ones?

It looks good on the skyline. It is true. The origiinal rendering had it just about as tall as Oxford Centre, which is 615 feet. My calculation has the highest point of the roof topping at around 595 feet, angling down at the lowest poiint to around 515 feet. My calclation of about 597 feet is based on this diagram. Each line is 50 meters. There are approx. 3.3 feet in a meter. This graph has The Tower at PNC approx. 181 meters, or 597 feet at it's apex. This makes it 6th tallest Downtown.

Thanks for the pictures! Somehow the off color does the facade on the corner building justice.

And although that facade was a visual travesty, I'm actually pretty pleased with how they did it--it doesn't seem to have done much damage to the original facade.

By the way, and this isn't intended as critical, but I think we have another prime example of the following:

American Fascist « Father Pitt

Not only did it not damage it, it looks like it preserved it quite nicely! If I had to design a cover to preserve a historic facade, that's pretty much what I'd come up with! So exciting that it's finally coming down for all to see what's underneath!

Why is it that when the city approved construction plans an accurate height was not revealed?? Does anyone really believe that Gensler does not know the height ?
WTF ?
Jim Rohr your company is growing as you said when buying Lord and taylor building lets get back to 40 stories with a height of 648 making your tower the third tallest in the city !!!
