But anyways, where do people recommend looking at rings around here?
Stop in and see Meg Henne at Henne Jewelers in Shadyside. You won't be disappointed.

If you want a really good deal and you might really get lucky, check out that little jewelry repair place in Lawrenceville. It is on the corner of Main and Butler right across from the big PNC. Ask for David. You might hit a home run in that place. Dave knows his stuff and won't rip you off.

I don't have any jewelers to add; neither of us in this house is much into jewelry and especially not into diamonds. That's kind of convenient I suppose.

But I did want to say congrats and good luck UKyank.

Yeah. I think that's the same strategy that ultimately led to the downfall of Dennis Kozlowski, the disgraced former Tyco CEO.

If you want the best deal on something custom, you'll want to check out the Diamond District in NYC (or online from a shop that operates there). Check out pricescope.com for enough info about engagement rings to make you want to stab a fork in your eyes.

There is a place at the Galleria in Mt.Lebanon that has some pretty estate pieces, check estate sales too. You are right to avoid chain stores. When selecting a style keep in mind bezel set stones are safer than high prong settings. Good luck!
