McCandless seemed more middle-class to me. I could be mistaken, though.

It is pretty undeniable for anyone who has actually spent any time in any of these places...

There are very expensive homes in almost every area around Pittsburgh, but the highest concentration outside of the city is no doubt Fox Chapel. In that same tier would be the area where half the Steelers live-officially Wexford addresses-as well as Peters Township. Do a satellite zoom or bird's eye view of Justabout Rd. in Peters just a few hundred feet east of where it intersects with Hilltop Rd...the one home is probably the biggest residence in Western PA. Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebo, and Sewickley have some very impressive homes to be sure, but have tons of average everyday homes mixed in. I live in Lebo in a 1,350 sq. foot home built in 1919 and rennovated in 1981 with powder blue formica counter tops sitting on 0.08 acres- far from expensive or exclusive. USC is chalk-full of 50's ranches and 70's multi-levels with orange shag carpeting.

Sewickley can be subdivided--Sewickley Heights is where the estates were built.

Sewickley is not the same as Sewickley Heights. SH and Fox Chapel have long ranked as the two wealthiest municipalities in the area. Tough to compare them though. Fox Chapel is much larger than SH.

As for the Upper St. Clair thing, the area was named for Arthur St. Clair, a native of Scotland, who was a general in the Revolutionary army, and was prominent around these parts. The original St. Clair Twp. covered much of the southern half of Allegheny County. Early on, it was divided into two parts. Over the years, Lower St. Clair was broken up into various boroughs, some of which has been absorbed into the city. The last remaining section, St. Clair Boro, was absorbed into the city during the 1920's. You can still see manhole covers with "St Clair Boro" stamped into them around this area. St. Clair Village indeed did sit on land which was once part of St. Clair Boro, and was earlier part of the original St. Clair Twp.

For the record, there is Sewickley, Sewickley Heights, and Sewickley Hills. Three separate twps, but all with MONEY.

Yes yes, but SH ranks above the other two as there are no "lesser" areas weighing it down.
