The obvious choice would be to walk over to Primanti's and grab a beer and a sandwich, they are open all night long and will probably have people in and out at all crazy hours. You could then just walk around the city a bit, but most everything will be closed. One thing for sure, this place isn't NYC or Miami, it more resembles the bible belt. There might be a place or two open till 3AM in the Strip, but I am a bit out of touch with that kind of thing these days. From 3-6 I would say the city is very dead. That is 3 hours of nothing to do, unless you just like to walk and explore. I would feel very safe in the city. From the station, you could also walk to the South Side, but you need to find a place open till 3AM. Even Jack's Bar closes at 2AM and reopens at 7AM.

I could try hopping from hotel lobby to lobby or see if I can stay at the Amtrak station, I guess. Thanks guys!

My greatest concern was safety, but it seems that won't be a problem?
even though i haven't been there, I can almost assure you that the bus station's 'lobby' will be nicer than amtraks... talk about a dive.

Plus, there are only 4 departures a day I think on Amtrak, so while the waiting area there is probably open all night, it's not the more obvious place. There will be more activity at the Greyhound station. It's also closer, although only marginally.

I work in one of the hotels downtown and they know people are coming in and lounging on the lobby couches during their layovers. They will ask you to leave.

I would go to Primanti's in the Strip and make that last as long as possible and then walk around. I've walked downtown all hours of the night and have never felt unsafe.

Not sure why this says, "Oakland"?

If it was me, I would take a walk down Penn Avenue into the city and see if the Sharp Edge is still open or across the street is a hotel Mariott Courtyard, has a bar. Then I would make my way back up into the Strip District late night and go to Primanti's. I believe it is on 18th Street, so that isn't far and it will be an easy walk. Take Penn Avenue to walk there. The Alter Bar might be a 3AM place, but don't know. Primanti's is a easy going place to grab a drink and a sandwich. Don't get the cheesesteak, it sucks. Get a pastrami, capicola, roast beef or corned beef. If you bus is late, you might want to forget the Penn Ave. trip and just head to Primanti's. At least you will be able to hang out at a bar/sandwich shop that is famous in Pittsburgh. Get a couple of beers at 2AM if you want to drink for a while. I am not sure they keep serving alcohol after hours there. I suspect they will start serving beer at 7AM, but not sure.

Okay, you guys have convinced me with Primanti's. :P I forgot to mention that I'm 19 so I guess some bars are out of the question?

The place is Primanti Bros located at "46 18th Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15222-4407" right?

19? Primanti's has become your only option. You will not be allowed in any bars. Go and get a sandwich, then walk around or hang out at the bus station. Sounds like a long night, so maybe bring a book, magazine, etc... whatever will keep you busy. Good luck with your journey! Where are you coming from, might I ask?

You're right. That's the Strip District. I've edited it.

Yes, and make note, Yuxuan, that it's in the Strip District, not Oakland. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...05397&t=m&z=15

Definitely hang out in the bus station (aka Grant Street Transportation Center) over the train station.
