Default Curious Former Resident of Homewood Brushton

I have viewed this forum several times and finally decided to register.

I lived in Homewood from 1962 to 1974. I'm so surprised the area has deteriorated so much. I have Googled the street I lived on which was Kelly Street. The street doesn't look like its been paved since I left. What's worst, I don't remember it being paved when I lived there.

I recently decided to go back and get my degree in Political Science.

If there is anyone who lives in the area can you direct me to any organizations that can tell me:

1. Why has there been next to no improvements in this area?
2. How is the transit system and routes in the area?

I can look at the census and other websites, but I would also like to hear from anyone currently living in this area. Believe it or not, when I was a little girl and lived in the neighborhood, I could walk to school and the library by myself and was never threaten.

Lincoln-Larimer might be even worse than Homewood-Brushton

If you can handle Fresno, you should be able to navigate Pittsburgh without much issue. The city has its problems, but remember, millionaires live in the city too so it can't all be bad. Stay out of bad neighborhoods and you should be fine. You'll be able to tell which neighborhoods are bad pretty quickly, though some look worse than they really are. Until you sort out which ones just look bad versus which ones are bad, follow your instincts and you should be fine.

This is starting to get absurd. I've traveled all over the US, and I honestly do not feel safer in any other city. Stay out of the wrong places at the wrong times, and you'll be fine. It's been said time and time again, if you don't feel safe in a certain place, leave.

You're getting very mislead, and you're focusing on the negatives here.

If you go into any city forum and ask about the bad areas, that's exactly what you'll heard, man. Every city has it's bad parts and it's dangerous people.

Pittsburgh is very safe. Especially considering where you're coming from. Seriously, you'll be laughing about this a year after you move here.

The job corps here are incredibly safe, unless you're working at a fast food chain in a really bad area. You have NOTHING to worry about at all

that message i wrote was pretty misleading...=)..lol... i kinda went into a panic mode... after reading about homewood... but i mean yeah i already live in a rough area of the country... and im used to living in a crime ridden city ..so i mean im sure that pittsburgh even though it's a little more popular then Fresno,ca is not as Dangerous at all.... but yeah thanks for the assurance about pittsburgh. I really appreciate it.

Actually the per capita crime rate within the city limits of Pittsburgh is higher than within the city limits of Fresno. Pittsburgh just doesn't have the reputation for it like Fresno.

I've been to Pittsburgh, its a nice city. But like any city you have to be aware of where you are.
