President Bush is threatening to veto the Water Resources Development Act which includes millions of dollars allocated for flood control in Allegheny County. Our fellow Pittsburghers who live in flood regions desperately need the government to finally put a stop to the flooding in their areas. These are often working class families who can not afford to move from the flood zones. Their houses often flood multiple times per year. Worse, their towns perpetuate the ongoing problem by not supporting relocation housing because the towns will lose tax revenue if these houses are razed. Aside from relocating these houses and forbidding new construction in flood zones, the only viable solution is flood control projects. After Ivan in 2004, Bush visited these neigbhorhoods and promised help. Water Resources Development Act should be available for Bush's approval sometime next month. Please take the time to let Bush know that a veto is not the help he promised Allegheny County residents.
