Failing to list the "free-parking" holidays is just another instance of non-disclosure where this private parking concession can disregard policy in hopes of bilking a little more revenue from the uninformed.

Default not the point

About ditchdigger's comment - how much money is at stake? That's not the point. It's about collecting money for something that is free. Money they don't have coming to them. Even if it's just $2 from everyone who parks tomorrow, it's money gotten illegally.

The fancy electronic meters should tell you if it is a parking holiday or not.

I have yet to read anywhere it is "free parking" downtown. Can you provide a link that they don't enforce parking meter violations on MLK Day? If it isn't formally announced, I suspect you might get a ticket. If you drive a car into a city, you should be paying and paying plenty. There are other ways to get in and out of cities in our region and we don't need FREE parking down there. It just makes traffic worse than it already is.

Pittsburgh Parking Authority web page:

PPA | Holidays

"HOLIDAY PARKING

ON-STREET PARKING METERS & OFF-STREET PARKING METERED LOTS ONLY

Please note that for your information and convenience the Pittsburgh Parking Authority observes the following holidays ONLY, which are not enforced by Pittsburgh Parking Authority Enforcement Officers: You do not have to pay for on-street meters or off-street metered lots during their observance – “free all day”."

It's funny to me that this simple topic has two pages of discussion.

It was bumped from a long time ago, but it is like anything. If people don't know they put money in the meters. It is listed as you pointed out as a holiday and there is free parking. Those that read it, will park for free and those that don't, will pay without knowing. It isn't up to the city to put it on billboards and such. It is up to people who park to find out.

Thanks for the link. I don't park down there with a car. Rather bike or take the bus.
