Nah man, if you had driven in at rush hour today, you would have seen as I did how little traffic there is. Even though many of us don't have off, just schools, governments and banks being away creates a LOT less traffic. It was like sailing through on a summer Friday. Our parking garage was SO empty in comparison to a normal winter weekday.

Besides, you gotta pay everywhere but meters. Same as with overnights, etc. Although I don't necessarily disagree that one should have to pay when driving to the city. I think that's a reasonable point, although I think the efforts to encourage more shopping on weekends, etc are also fine.

One of the biggest things that should change about paying for parking is the extra low rates at the PPA garages. Free meters on a holiday is one thing, subsidizing commuters' everyday parking is quite another. Yet, that is what the PPA garages continue to do.

There are other ways to get in and out of cities in our region and we don't need FREE parking down there. It just makes traffic worse than it already is.
Even today though? Lots of people have MLK day off so demand for parking is much less today.

Yeah, I agree. Sorry, I just don't want to hear people complain in general about parking fees for those that drive in and out of the city every day, but for ML the King day, yeah why not have some free days. Out of respect for one of the best speakers ever. One thing I never understood was why more people don't park in Millvale and ride a bike down that short flat trail into the city. It is such a nice ride AND it is great to get a little air into your lungs before and after work.

Now, who knows what movie I was quoting when I wrote, "Martin Luther the king", instead of Martin Luther King Day?

In addition to what was on the website, the meters indicated that today was a holiday and parking was free.
