Pitt was on the Northside, or more properly, in Allegheny, Pa. before they moved to Oakland in 1908. Triangle Tech now occupies the old campus of what was then, Western University of Pennsylvania. The school was indeed in the Triangle prior to moving to Allegheny.

Interesting. I learned some of that Pitt history when I went there (we were forced to actually, as part of our orientation). I know that even though the school was founded in 1787, it was not the same college it is now. Many of these old colleges were started as all-male schools (I don't recall if that is true of Pitt, but at that date, very few women went to college), and had different names. Basically, it has been continually operating since then under some name. Whoops, I see Herodotus just filled in some more.

[quote=boylocke;1427464]Oh, lol, I don't know near enough to talk about it, but I know WU version of UPMC is even more prestigious than UPMC.
Funny you should say that, because just last month I read a very large article about this. Cleveland and Pittsburgh suburbs are slowly but surely starting to bleed together and this will continue to happen. Part of the article was about some big commission/organization in Cleveland wanting to share some sort of mutual "economic feedback" with Pittsburgh. Their idea and request was for both cities to share technology, ideas, resources, and economic clout. I'm not sure what ever came of the meetings, but it's not a bad idea, I hope to hear more about it soon.>>>> Great minds think alike. I can only see it as a benefit for the entire area. I hope they embrace the idea, because in today's world, it seems most people think "bigger is better." I'm not a crazy big city person, but I'd support anything that would help this area improve upon it's present situation. |

Cleveland Rocks!
Ian Hunter said so.Of course it does, in the beautiful Metroparks and elsewhere, and it also has Lake Erie. Probably about the same distance -- 2 to 2 1/2 hours (depending on how fast you drive!). Most of the 'buirghers I know and/or am related to that don't go to Erie will drive instead to Geneva, about an hour east of Cleveland. Headlands is about a half-hour east of Cleveland, another good beach. |

A while ago there was talk of a passenger rail line linking Pittsburgh, Youngstown and Cleveland. Nothing ever came out of it **surprise, surprise** but that sure would have been cool. |

![]() And the fact that the "Western Reserve" was originally part of Connecticut only makes it that much cooler! I'd rather tell people I live in Connecticut than Ohio. |

You should take a day or two and explore around Cleveland. I think you'll still prefer Pittsburgh, but Cleveland is moderately interesting... |

Wow -- that surprises me -- if there's any city with a tough reputation, it's Youngstown. Right up there with Gary, Indiana in my mind. I remember is having the highest murder rate in the nation at one time. But I've never been there so maybe it's changed.
