That would be a PITA in the snow. And it always seems to rain during rush hour in Pittsburgh. Nothing would be worse than arriving to work all sweaty from the humidity in the summer. Biking isn't a realistic option for an office worker. There aren't showers in most office buildings.

Mt. Lebanon might not be a terrible option for a Technology Drive commute, but the OP would have to take some of the shortcuts through Dormont and Beechview and Mt. Washington rather than sit in traffic on Banksville or West Liberty.

For Technology Drive, I'd aim for living in Bethel Park and commute via Lebannon Road, across the Glenwood Bridge, and take 2nd Ave and Irvine Street all the way down through down through Hazelwood.

Technology Drive is close to 2nd Avenue which is pretty close from Bethel Park. You can take Broughton Road to Lebanon Church Road to Lebanon Road/885/2nd Avenue as Hopes describe above. 2nd Ave through Hazelwood backs up some at rush hours but that is due to the traffic lights.

If living in Mt. Lebanon, you could take the T to First Avenue station and walk a short way to the 2nd Ave/B Street (or 2nd Avenue in front of the County Jail stop) stop and transfer on to any 56/57/58 bus. Each of them stop on 2nd Avenue near Technology Drive.

The OP would be driving to work unless he or she doesn't have a car. If he is concerned about commute times no way would he consider the T and a bus tranfer.

The only thing other thing I would add is that your commute time would be longer because Technology Drive isn't exactly downtown. Getting out of downtown can take 10 minutes itself depending on where you park.

Regent Square.. you can just cut through greenfield, pop out on second ave and probabbly be at work in 15 minutes. Plus you'd like in a walkable and connected to the rest of the city neighborhood. No tunnels and no rivers to cross..with the option of taking the busway downtown, or biking anywhere really.. But then again i am biased cos i hardly leave the city limits. :-p

If you can afford Mt. Lebanon, you can probably afford Squirrel Hill, which would require no bridges, tunnels, or parkways.

Here are some houses: http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...217?source=web

You have missed all the people who can't merge and are too worried about letting everyone else go before them.

When I worked in the South Hills, I always said, if I lived in Mt Lebo, Upper St Clair, or Bethel Park, and worked downtown, no questions asked, I'd be on the light rail every day
Where in Mt. Lebanon you end up will make a huge difference, as will what time you make your commute. There's a big difference between the North and South ends, and the traffic seems to peak around 7:45-8:15. If you live in the Northern part of Mt. Lebanon and leave around 7:00, you'll get there in about 20 minutes. If you live in the southern part and leave around 7:45, it could take you 45 minutes, maybe even an hour on some days.

I routinely get to the Squirrel Hill Tunnel in 20 minutes or less from northern Mt. Lebanon, leaving around 7:15.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions - I'm open to more areas than Mt. Lebanon - just looking to have a nice neighborhood with walking, dog park, coffee shop etc.

And by suggestion, if you don't want to list times - please tell me where you live and how long it takes you! That works too.

A lot of you are saying - Technology Drive isn't really "downtown" - is that a good or bad thing? Any area to live in best for working on Technology Drive?
