Mayoral Leadership
Reading all the energetic input on the never ending Pittsburgh and Cleveland debate, perhaps we can garner half the same responsive energy for this topic. If your a city resident which mayoral candidate will you vote for in November ? If your not satisified with Luke Ravenstahl and your a democrat, would you be able to pull the lever for a republican?

HAH, no. NEVER.
Naw, I'm just teasing (but not really). I don't think Luke is really the problem, in fact, I like the guy. He has a lot of good ideas and has a fresh outlook on many things (although not ALL good ideas, trust me). It is freaking city council and other local and fractured politics that is the problem. If Luke was able to do the things he actually wanted to do and would stop getting blocked at every corner from the idiots, we'd be better off.
Like them foiling the ban on smoking in the city or in the work places. Every progressive city in the country is doing it, it's perfectly fair and right in my opinion, but noooo! That is such crap they won't allow Luke to sign it. You can CHOSE not to smoke, I can't CHOSE to not suck in your poison when you are around me at a restaurant or at my work. You won't die if you don't smoke, but I very well might by being exposed to your noxious death-stick!!!! :P

He actually doesn't, which is a problem.

Actually he doesn't and that's a problem too. People are fooled by his age. O'Connor was more youthful and inspired than this young old-timer politician who has demonstrated serious doubt about his decision making skills.
It's sad really. He could have been an element of progress and change and he has not desire to be that.

You obviously don't understand Pittsburgh politics! The democratic primary IS the actual election, not ACTUAL election day!
All I can say on the subject since I am not yet a resident again is that I am deeply saddened at the loss of Bob O'Connor. I had the privelege and honor of working on his first two campaigns. What a wonderful man he was, and what wonderful things he would have done for the great city of Pittsburgh!
As bad as this Ravenstahl may be viewed, I can't imagine that he could actually be worse than Murphy was! LOL

I'd like to see this debate pick up. I just registered to vote here and I'd like to know more from real people about the candidates.

Although I'm a registered Democrat, I'm going to vote for DeSantis, if only to send a signal that we need a two-party system again. It's healthier when one party is keeping an eye on the other, which hasn't happened in Pittsburgh since before WWII.
Ravenstahl, despite his youth, is a product of the old political machine, and acts it.

the way i see it is that NATIONAL politics has nothing to do with LOCAL politics.
what's that supposed to mean?
it means that just because you may be someone who goes around blaming "Bush" for all of your problems from hurricanes to the McRib only being "for a limited time only" doesn't mean that a Republican candidate for mayor is "evil".
"But 'Bush' is his name, why did you put it in quotation marks?", the readers asked.
"Well," said the Me, "for one, over the past 7 years the name "Bush" has turned into a spiteful angry word and it made sense for me to use it that way in my analogy. Also, it's PRESIDENT Bush; not Bush. Be respectful even if you don't like the guy. Trust me, his job is harder than yours ever was, is, or will be and he puts up with a lot more stress than you ever had, are, or will."

i feel that may have been too much for such a young topic...sorry.
my point is that just pulling the D or R lever is NEVER a good idea. if you actually pay attention and listen to what the politicians have to say, you might find that pulling a D or R lever may have been a mistake.

Here's where we part ways my friend. ;-) That buffoon in the white house has done nothing deserving of our respect. Heck, it's still open to debate whether he even won the office! (The electoral college has long outlived it's usefulness)
Stress? What stress? Cheney and his cronies run the place(well 'ran" since they are all jumping ship now), and he's always in Crawford, TX! (God knows why the leader of the free world would choose to vacation in crawford, TX anyway lol)
When is the last time you heard the man complete an intelligent sentence? (or ANY sentence, for that matter?) There is no way that that moron i spulling his own strings. He has single handedly ruined international relations with nearly evry country of importance in the world. He even sank Tony Blair!
I do agree with you on one point though: We really shouldn't pick on Lil' Bush. It really isn't nice to pick on the mentally handicapped.

1. this isn't the topic of this thread.
2. it's comments like that that make me turn my head because obviously there's no way that you would be able to have a civil intelligent conversation about federal politics.
