Best Neighborhood/Suburb for a family under $175k?
Self explanatory.
Nice neighborhood, I like the older more established neighborhoods, as Im not fond of new developments. Good schools, etc,etc...
I really appreciate all the input. Thank you.

Let me state that I am looking for, how can i put this, the "sh-tiest house in a nice neighborhood". I want a fixer upper but in a nice neighborhood.
So when you say find something decent, do you mean it will be hard to find something updated and such, because that isn't a problem.
Edit: I was putting McCandless and Ross into realtor.com and nothing was coming up. Am I doing something wrong? What are the actual town names? I also can't find Ross Township on Mapquest but got homes on realtor.com.
I am not from Pittsburgh as this will be an out of state move (from STL) so all these names are new to me, so please bear with me.

Heh, try North Hills and Wexford. For less than 175k you would probably be able to buy a fixer upper in McCadless and be in a nice neighborhood. If that is the case, as what you described, I might look into all of Wexford which includes the Borough of Franklin Park, the Town of McCandless, Pine Township, and Marshall Township.

Thanks for the help. I found a house in Ross Twp. I nearly shat my pants over it was so cool looking (they don't make them like that over here on the Illinois side of STL).
I really appreciate the info.

15229 is the zip code for Ross, 15237 for McCandless.
15229 also includes West View, which is in the city, so not good schools.

Townships are usually not listed as such on maps and therefore are unlikely to appear on real estate sites. Even more confusing is that there can be more than one township with the same name as long as they are in different counties, and there are in several cases.
I think the zip codes will be useful though. By the way, West View is not part of the city. It's its own borough. Try also Allison Park and Bradford Woods. I'm not familiar with any of the schools though.
