Here is the new Kittanning Photo Tour, if you are interested. I took the pictures yesterday afternoon. Enjoy!

Thanks. You did a very nice job on the home pictures. I wanted to let people know, some of the homes have a river view and there is a nice park on that riverfront as well. Kittanning is pretty nice.

First look at this photo reminded me of the corner of Rebecca & Peebles in Wilkinsburg. I hadn't been there in a long time, but similar and both streets named Rebecca (on the Wilkinsburg side of Peebles).

Great job on Kittanning. I have been there many times over the years but only the outskirts. You've shown what I missed. Thank you.

You did a great job of crawling around there. I've been in and out of Kittanning for years, but I never explored the side streets. It's amazing how many duplex houses were built, and just how old some of those brick homes are. Looks very German-influenced.

That courthouse & jail, the main business street, the old hospital, and the bridge (some of those not shown in this Tour) were all used in The Mothman Prophesies movie.

bridge

and I think this is the hospital I remember, except I seem to recall it painted white or something (could be wrong)

I used to live there too. Great little town. For those that want the best of both worlds, country and city living, Kittanning is close enough to give both.

Just down river is Ford City. Funny though because the two places are so close yet feel so different. Kittanning has the culture and amenities. They briefly combined to one high school but regional rivalries restored Ford City High. No rivalry more bitter than Kittanning-Ford City.

I'm not sure there is an old county seat in Central and Western PA that I haven't liked (not to take anything away from Kittanning in particular--it is certainly another very nice example). I actually spent a year living in Hollidaysburg (Blair County), and this brought back fond memories.

I've lived in two Central Pa county seats. They had their pluses and minuses, which also applies to the small town mindset. But my biggest problem was they were too far away from "things". Kittanning is 40 miles from Pittsburgh so it has both a rural feel but a connection to a big city.

To be sure, liking them and actually wanting to live in them are two different issues.

In fact one of the things I like about my actual place of residence, Wilkinsburg, is that it sort of reminds me of those classic county seats, but is located a 20-minute express bus ride from Downtown.

Wow that's a nice photo set. Kittanning has a little more live to it than I thought which is a good thing.
