Well Im more of a fan of the suburbs, idealy id like to have parks and a lot of trees around me but still be within a short drive to a walmart. Im deffenetly not a fan of houses right on top of one another I like my privacy. Right now I dont have kids so schools are not that important to me yet, but if there is an area like what I would like a good school would be a bonus.

I personally do not like West Mifflin. It's not a bad area, but it's sort of run down.
Hopes is right, it's an "ok" area at best. If you are on a strict budget, though, it might not be terrible as long as your girlfriend and company know not Pittsburgh on West Mifflin and go searching for greener grass. They do have a mall and some restaurants and I believe a walmart even (can anyone verify that???) but last time I was in that commercial district it wasn't terribly nice. Although they do have a Ruby Tuesday, which I love. :P

Rural suburbian areas are O'Hara Township, Indiana Township, West Deer Township, some parts of Gibsonia, Pine and Richland areas too (Mars, Valencia, etc.)

There are Walmarts within reasonable distance to all of these areas. Targets are not as close.

Squirrel Hill and Mt. Lebanon are very congested areas where houses are close together.

What about Penn Hills area? I seen that they are cheap too.

I seen some photos of the Pittsburgh area in the Pittsburgh vs Clevland forum and I think it looks cool with all the old buildings around the city and all the old houses, but that is deffenetly not an area in which I would like to live. Im hoping that those photos are from the down town area.

Im not tring to put down Pittsburgh, it reminds me of down town Buffalo NY only without the hills. Just like in Buffalo though I would never live in that area Id rather be like 20 min or so away from the downtown area.

BTW, I meant "... know not to judge Pittsburgh on West..."

I'm not sure which pictures you are specifically referring to, but I can say that you shouldn't fear Pittsburgh being like Buffalo. Likewise, I don't mean to put down Buffalo but it's in a world of hurt more than Pittsburgh. Last time I passed through Buffalo only last year I was horrified at the quality of life from just a few years before that, even.

Penn Hills is a step up from West Mifflin. It also isn't the most spectacular city in Pittsburgh either, but certain parts of the town are actually pretty nice. My brother and his wife (as of today, congrats to them!) rent a little place in Oakmont which is not far from Penn Hills. I would recommend Oakmont, it is really charming. Verona is also in that mix, with some parts being quaint and lovely while other parts are not as nice (like any city, really).
None of those areas are more than about a 15 up to 25 minute commute to Pittsburgh.

I personally think the city of Pittsburgh is more beautiful then the suburbs. You could give me an old house in a neat neighborhood of Pittsburgh with sidewalks and a business district then a suburban neighborhood where you got to drive to strip malls.

Pittsburgh is a great city with such quality neighborhoods. Most cities don't come close to the beauty of Pittsburgh's neighborhoods.

Thanks, lol. I am already at my parents house where the wedding will be. We have a really beautifully landscaped and roomie back yard. However, it is a miserable day and they might get rained out. How disappointing. So I am just sitting here waiting to get ready in a couple hours, everything else is set!
