Default Connellsville, PA

I am thinking of moving from NYC to Pittsburgh and am currently updating my resume. I'm assuming that I might get work in the city but came across some beautiful homes in Connellsville, PA. I looked it up on the web but can’t get much information about the town. Is it safe? Are the schools good there? It looks like a nice place but I want to get some local input, Also I'm seeing on Google that it may be an hour commute but am wondering is this realistic or is it more like an hour and a half with traffic to Pittsburgh?

Thanks for any advice or information in advance

Ehhhh, from what I've seen of Connellsville it's very "hick-ish." I wouldn't call it a desirable place to live at all, but I imagine you probably could get beautiful homes cheap there. The commute actually is about an hour, I've driven it on more than one occasion, but never during big time rush hour. I would imagine the school district (which I've also been to several times) is mediocre at best. But worth a shot to learn more if you found a really nice home!

There isn't anything good to say about Connellsville.

Be more specific about what you're looking for.

Don't assume you can get a job in Pgh.

Thanks for your replies. Your right Smoker, I can't be sure that I'll end up in Pittsburgh city, but because of it's size I think the odds are, if I do get work it may be in the city. How is the crime rate in Connellsville? are there any no-go areas? "There isn't anything good to say about Connellsville"/" it's very "hick-ish". Is it just a dead area or would it be dangerous to walk around at night?

Thanks again

Hm. I am trying really hard to think back about when I spent some time there. That whole little area down there, including Donegal and Uniontown is kind of backwards and "hick-ish." They are country folk, trust me, and the area seems a bit depressed. BUT, I don't really remember ever feeling unsafe in Connellsville. It's not a ghetto or white trash or anything, at least not what I saw. Assuming you are fairly young, there wouldn't be anything Connellsville could really offer you in terms of things to do.

However, if you think you've found a really beautiful home for a really good price, I wouldn't write it off. To some, that would be all that matters. If you are trying to find a job in the city, you would probably use the turnpike everyday would might start adding up. I doubt there is much in terms of work in Connellsville.

STAY OUT!!!

Seriously, I know people from there. I have been there myself. Remember, anything that far southwest in PA is not far away from West Virginia. It doesn't stop at the border. Trust me.

For some constructive advice, look north of the city. Butler, Freeport, etc are fairly nice, but inexpensive towns and they don't have the whole "Deliverance" vibe.

I would never recommend the town of Butler to anyone.

Really? It's improved quite a bit over the past decade. The influx of people moving into Butler County due to suburban sprawl has finally given the local government enough money to start fixing the place up.

It's the South and East I wouldn't recomend moving to, the south for reasons already states and the East because sprawl is completely out of control in Westmoreland County.

I said I wouldn't recommend the TOWN of Butler. Other areas of Butler COUNTY are fine.
